Here's Who Every Confirmed 'Rick and Morty' Season 4 Guest Star Could Play

We've got some theories.

Hype for Rick and Morty Season 4 is now at an all-time high after tons of details for the upcoming season came out of San Diego Comic-Con in July, and since we know six confirmed guest stars, it’s about time we start breaking down what roles these voice actors might be playing.

Many details about Season 4 remain unconfirmed, and outside of an episode where Jerry launches an app with help from aliens and another with space snakes set around Christmas, we don’t know what the 10 episodes will include.

Here are all the confirmed guest stars we know of as of this writing, along with all the confirmed details and some speculation about the roles they may be playing in Season 4:

Taika Waititi

Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi (who also provides the voice and motion capture for Thor’s rocky friend Korg) will is confirmed for Season 4, and a clip shown during San Diego Comic-Con debuted his alien character Gloopie, a plump little alien who’s into developing apps. He has four eyes, white claws, and a tattoo stamped on his forehead that reads, “DO NOT DEVELOP MY APP.” (In one SDCC interview, Justin Roiland confirmed it was Rick Sanchez who tattooed this.)

In the clip, we learn that he’s an intern for Jerry Smith and developing what appears to be some kind of dating app. He mentions a “mothership,” explaining that the server hosting Jerry’s app is somewhere onboard. We don’t know much else about what else his race is up to, but they’re presumably all very invested in making apps for humans.

Here's Glootie again. Sam Neill will voice a character from the same alien race.

Sam Neill

As much as we’d all love for Sam Neill to riff on his iconic Jurassic Park role on Rick and Morty, we know for sure that he’ll be a member of Glootie’s alien race.

“He’s from the same species as Taika’s character,” Roiland said of Neill’s role in an Entertainment Weekly interview, “and we wanted a Kiwi flavor to their species.” Glootie certainly talks with a Kiwi accent (“Kiwi” being a term used for New Zealand culture).

Given the confrontational nature of the Season 4 scene shown at SDCC, Glootie probably leads Morty and Jerry to the mothership where Sam Neill’s character is some kind of leader. Either that, or he’s another tech-obsessed lackey.

bojack horseman paul giamtti
Paul Giamatti voiced himself in a 'BoJack Horsememan' Season 4 episode.

Paul Giamatti

Rick and Morty co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland confirmed in May that while John Lithgow passed on a role, Paul Giamatti was cast in Season 4. That could be an indication that they were up for a similar role.

During an interview with IMDb held at SDCC, Roiland referred to Giamatti’s story as part of the “crazy train episode.” This note has us wishing that Rick and Morty Season 4 will riff on Snowpiercer in that there’s a train hurdling through an icy apocalypse that can never stop. Can Paul Giamatti be the overlord, or at least the conductor?

jessica rabbit
Kathleen Turner is known as the voice of Jessica Rabbit from 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' and more.

Kathleen Turner

Kathleen Turner has used her naturally sultry voice to play the animated Jessica Rabbit since 1988’s Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but she’s also done voice work for Family Guy and King of the Hill. There’s no telling who she might voice in Rick and Morty Season 4, but she’d be perfect for another hive mind entity akin to Unity from Season 2.

Better yet, if she voiced a character that was similar to Jessica Rabbit, it would be the perfect way to pay homage to her talents as a voice actress.

Watch Matthew Broderick voice the Spirit of the Forest in 'Adventure Time'.

Matthew Broderick

In Adventure Time, Matthew Broderick brought a funny deadpan delivery to his mystical Spirit of the Forest character, and we hope he might do something similar for Rick and Morty Season 4.

During a SDCC interview with Kevin Smith for IMDb, Harmon and Roiland confirmed that Broderick was lending his vocal talents to Season 4, but they didn’t offer any specific details.

Broderick also voices BoJack Horseman’s grandfather Joseph Sugarman on the animated Netflix series that often gets compared to Rick and Morty for its exploration of adult themes in a mature animated series. In terms of voice acting, his most famous role is definitely as adult Simba in the original animated version of The Lion King (1994).

Could Liam Cunningham voice one of these dinosaur cyborgs in 'Rick and Morty' Season 4?

Liam Cunningham

Ser Davos Seawoth, the Onion Knight from Game of Thrones, will also make his way over into Rick and Morty for Season 4, but like with Matthew Broderick, there’s little to no information about what his role entails. Actor Liam Cunningham is from Ireland but speaks in Game of Thrones with what sounds like a Geordie accent from a different area of the United Kingdom.

Cunningham has very little voice acting experience but an engaging natural accent, so his role in the upcoming Rick and Morty season could be just about anything. Based on the little that we know about Season 4, we’re hoping that Cunningham might voice one of the dinosaur cyborgs teased in early Season 4 photos that were released in July.

For these creatures to have distinctly human accents seems like the perfect amount of weird for Rick and Morty to strive for.

Rick and Morty Season 4 will be released sometime in November.
