Hawkeye Marvel Show: Disney+ Release Date, Trailer, Plot, and Cast

Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye in 'The Avengers' (2012)

Good news, archery fans: Avengers: Endgame will not be the last time you see Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye. On April 10, we learned that Disney+ is making a Hawkeye TV series, the latest in a string of recently announced shows focused on lesser-seen (but equally beloved) Marvel Cinematic Universe characters.

Brought to life on the big screen by Jeremy Renner, Hawkeye has been a part of the MCU since he made his debut in 2011’s Thor. Over the course of four MCU films (so far) — Thor, The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, and soon, Endgame — Hawkeye has become an integral part of the team. While we have some ideas about what to expect in regards to his character arc in Endgame, we can’t know for sure how things will pan out for the master marksman. As such, we’re glad to know that it won’t be the last time we get to see him on screen.

What Is the Release Date for the Hawkeye Series?

Still unclear.

The release date for this Hawkeye series will depend on both the official launch date of the Disney+ streaming service and the rollout plan for various series. If the Disney+ launch is still on track to happen in the fall of 2019, then we might see the Hawkeye series arrive sometime in mid-late 2020 — at the absolute earliest. We’re guessing this date just because of the amount of time it takes to film, edit, and shape episodes into one coherent season. However, it’s entirely possible this show won’t be released until late 2020 or early 2021, too.

Is There a Trailer for This Hawkeye Show Yet?

Not yet. A trailer will likely arrive a few months before the series drops onto the Disney+ streaming service, though we could get a sneak peak before then.

What Is the Plot of the Hawkeye Series?

Not too much in the way of a plot was revealed when the initial announcement about the series was made. This means we don’t even know at what point in the MCU timeline this series will take place. Per Variety, we know for sure that the Hawkeye series will revolve around Clint Barton and his protégé, Kate Bishop. It’s already being described as an “adventure series” and will see Clint “pass the torch to Kate Bishop.”

Fans have theorized that Kate Bishop will make be introduced in Avengers: Endgame, and has already been teased in Endgame trailers based on that fact that a young girl taking archery lessons from Clint. That has yet to be confirmed but if it’s true, then it could help to tease the plot of the Hawkeye Disney+ series.

In the comics, Kate is a member of the Young Avengers and assumes the Hawkeye identity after Barton is presumed dead. Although Barton is brought back to life, he takes over the Ronin identity, allowing Kate to continue to be Hawkeye. If Clint actually does become Ronin Endgame — which seems pretty much confirmed based on what we’ve seen in photos of Endgame toys as well as the trailers — then it will likely also factor into the Hawkeye TV series storyline.

Will Jeremy Renner Be Back as Hawkeye?

Variety’s report on the series confirms that Renner will return to play Clint Barton, although neither reps for Renner nor Disney or Marvel have released statements about his involvement (or the show, for that matter).

It’s still unclear if Renner will be featured as a series regular, appear for a few episodes at the beginning of the series and then exit, or occasionally appear from time to time during the first season, similar to what Cobie Smulders did with her character, Agent Maria Hill, for ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Other casting details, including the casting information for Kate Bishop, are not known at this time, though it looks like we’ll meet that character in Endgame as well.

Will Other MCU Superheroes Show Up?

It’s entirely possible that other superheroes from the MCU show up, but we can’t be certain right now.

With Disney+ lining up a handful of solo series based on supporting MCU characters like Scarlet and Vision, it’s entirely possible there’s a plan to make these series part of an extended universe that lives within the Disney+ realm. That said, no such thing has been hinted at by anyone official at this time.

Is Hawkeye the Only MCU Character Getting a Disney+ Series?
