'Fortnite' Season 4 Reveals New Location on Map Following Meteor Impact

One previous named location got destroyed by a meteor.

The new Season 4 for Epic Games’ Fortnite: Battle Royale is finally here with almost zero downtime since Season 3 ended early Tuesday morning, and just like everyone thought, a huge meteor crashed into the map and destroyed one named location. But it wasn’t Tilted Towers, it was Dusty Depot (which confirms a theory from earlier this week).

On Tuesday morning, Epic Games rolled out Season 4 of Fortnite: Battle Royale, and with it came the long-predicted massive meteor impact that forever changed the Fortnite island as we know it. The loosely story-based Season 4 announcement trailer revealed a massive meteor strike with the point of impact being just barely south of what was formerly called Dusty Depot. Most of what we knew as Dusty Depot got destroyed, with a massive crater impacting a huge portion of the map with a small settlement at the point of impact.

Check out the new map right here:

Here's a look at the new 'Fortnite: Battle Royale' map for Season 4, which adds Risky Reels and Dusty Divot after the destruction of Dusty Depot.

Here’s a closer look at Dusty Divot, which still includes two of the large hangars from the original Dusty Depot:

The area erected around the comet itself seems like some scientific research facility studying the comet. Based on what we saw in the Season 4 cinematic, it looks like the comets brought with them both aliens and superheroes — or perhaps more accurately, alien superheroes. It’s possible that the meteor itself is radioactive and caused superpowers to happen in various characters, but considering how little Fortnite: Battle Royale focuses on any kind of story, it hardly matters. More practically, the existing meteor messed with gravity in the surrounding area, which makes it totally worth visiting.

You might also have noticed that a section in the northeast corner of the map finally picked up a name. “Risky Reels” is directly northwest of Wailing Woods. Historically, this area mostly just has a few different houses and farms. It’s not a very popular landing location and the storm almost never closes around the area, so it doesn’t get a lot of foot traffic. But now, that’s where the outdoor cinema featured in the Season 4 trailer is.

The Season 4 Week 1 Challenges have mostly the usual, but it’s safe to expect that these new named locations will pop up in the comings weeks as different Challenges.
