"Elseworlds" Arrowverse Spoilers: Trailer Confirms a 'Freaky Friday' Twist

The first “Elseworlds” trailer shows a bizarro universe in which things are all sorts of weird for the Arrowverse’s greatest heroes — and Iris West successfully making a good breakfast is only the first clue. In the very first teaser for this year’s Arrowverse crossover, Oliver Queen wakes up in Barry Allen’s bed.

The CW released a very brief teaser that features the first footage from the “Elseworlds” crossover due out this September. Oliver Queen wakes up in the West-Allen apartment in Central City. “Good morning!” Iris West-Allen says to him as Oliver looks at a photo of them together. “The pancakes are perfect this time.” It’s a fun callback to the October 30 episode of The Flash in which Iris failed miserably to make breakfast for Barry and Nora.

Things go from odd to totally weird when Iris says, “I love you, Barry Allen.” Barry/Oliver’s shocked response to this whole situation is telling. “Elseworlds” has been teasing “Destiny Will Be Rewritten” for some time now with the promise of Barry and Oliver swapping places.

But rather than Stephen Amell playing Barry Allen and Grant Gustin playing Oliver Queen, it looks like each actor is playing their original characters in some otherworldly reality where they’ve swapped places.

It’s unclear exactly how this happens, but there’s bound to be some important event or character that alters reality on a massive scale. Could this be a soft reboot for the greater Arrowverse? Or will it all be undone by the end?

“Elseworlds” is the latest instance of the Arrowverse’s obsession with mind control, body swapping, and alternate reality doppelgangers, but it’ll also serve as the launching point for Batwoman by introducing Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane as part of the crossover.

John Wesley Shipp will also appear, reprising his role as a version of the Flash from an alternate reality. Tyler Hoechlin also returns as Superman, bringing with him Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane.

The three-night Arrowverse “Elseworlds” crossover begins with The Flash at 8 p.m Eastern on Sunday, December 9 and continues on Arrow at 8 p.m. Eastern on December 10, ending with Supergirl on December 11 at the same time.
