'Rick and Morty' Season 4 Hulu release date could be sooner than you think
In the age of cord-cutting where millennials do everything they can to avoid paying for cable, watching Rick and Morty Season 4 episodes as they air is more challenging than getting Jerry Smith a job. It’s so challenging, in fact, that some fans have even resorted to watching pirated versions on Pornhub. But the simplest, safest, and least pornographic method is to watch it on Hulu (or HBO Max) — assuming you have the patience to wait for it.
For those of us used to watching and rewatching old Rick and Morty episodes on Hulu, the question remains: When will Season 4 be available? The answer depends on when Season 4 ends.
The first five episodes of Rick and Morty Season 4 kicked off on Sunday, November 10 and should run through December 8. Series co-creator Justin Roiland also confirmed five more episodes are coming later, but we don’t know exactly when.
The Season 4 trailer does say “half the season you deserve, all the season we could handle,” which probably just means all Adult Swim could handle … in 2019. If we’re lucky, Episode 6 will air on Sunday, January 5 or 12. So the earliest air date for the season finale is likely Sunday, February 2.
What would that mean for the Rick and Morty Season 4 Hulu release date?
Seasons 2 and 3 concluded in October of 2015 and 2017, respectively, and those seasons weren’t added to Hulu until late June of the following years, putting the suspected wait time at around 8 months. Given the shifting nature of streaming media, however, fans won’t have to wait nearly as long for Season 4.
During WarnerMedia’s formal HBO Max unveiling on October 29, the company announced that every episode of Rick and Morty ever — past, present, and future — would be available to stream on Hulu and HBO Max. The Hollywood Reporter revealed shortly after the announcement that new episodes “will now be available at the same time they land on HBO Max, about five months after the finales.”
It’s possible that WarnerMedia has plans for Rick and Morty Season 4 to be a launch title for the new HBO Max streaming platform when it goes live sometime in May 2020. If Season 4 ends in early February, then it’s plausible for the entire season to land on Hulu the same week that HBO Max launches with the same episodes.
Even if that’s not the case, the earliest anybody can expect Rick and Morty Season 4 to be on Hulu is May 2020, but it’ll ultimately depend on when the season finishes airing.
Rick and Morty Season 4 airs Sunday nights on Adult Swim at 11:30 p.m.
