Fortnite's Leaked 'It: Chapter 2' Crossover Looks Scarier Than Fornitemares

If this is true, it could turn out to be one of Epic's best crossover events.

Epic Games celebrated Halloween in 2018 with Fortnitemares, a spooky Season 6 event that involved Cube Monster zombies, Shadow Stones, gargoyles, and hunting down ghost decorations — but in 2019 with Season X, the Fortnite: Battle Royale developer might celebrate by bringing Pennywise the Dancing Clown into the mix. That’s right, Fortnite is getting an It: Chapter Two crossover, according to some leaks and rumors.

Fortnite recently collaborated with Major Lazer for some special cosmetics, is currently in the midst of a Borderlands 3 crossover event, and sometime next week, it might add It: Chapter Two-themed challenges and outfits as well. The Fortnite-It crossover might be even more in-depth than the Stranger Things limited-time event earlier this summer.

Tuesday night, ComicBook.com noticed a series of Fortnite leaks that emerged on Twitter. These have been reposted by many different data-miner accounts on the social media platform, so it’s hard to know who found it first, but they consist of four sound bites each called “Illinois_Laugh” and one “Flotation Balloon” labeled as “CreepyBalloon” within the game’s files.

It: Chapter Two takes place in Derry, Maine for the most part, so “Illinois” is a weird choice for a file name, but if you listen to the sound files, they bear an uncanny resemblance to Pennywise’s demonic laughter.

The “CreepyBalloon” leak has a similar case of misdirection in that within the game files, it appears to be a pink-white color rather than the bright red of Pennywise’s beloved balloons. Why call it “Creepy” when it looks like a regular balloon? That’s perhaps the strongest hint that it is related in some way to an It: Chapter Two crossover.

Epic Games might reintroduce the Balloon consumable item, vaulted at the start of Season 9, but adjust the previously random colors so that they’re all red. Maybe when you inflate each balloon, one of the Pennywise sound cues triggers?

There’s also the obvious: If they can introduce a Demogorgon outfit with the Stranger Things, then Epic Games will have to design a Pennywise outfit available for purchase as part of any potential It: Chapter Two crossover. If they don’t, then what’s even the point?

It: Chapter Two will be released September 6, 2019. Any Fortnite crossover will probably begin that same day.
