'Bully 2' Release Date, Leaks, and Story Rumors for the Cult Classic Title

Almost 13 years later, the sequel could be taking shape.

Rockstar Games’ tradition of master-class adventure games, groundbreaking gameplay, and tongue-in-cheek storytelling has spanned several modern-day metropolises — and the Wild West. However, the publishers most unique release to date didn’t involve manic criminals or hardened cowboys but students of a private boarding school.

It’s been almost 13 years since Rockstar released Bully in October 2006. The title revolved around 15-year-old rebel James “Jimmy” Hopkins as he tries to gain clout amongst the different cliques in his posh prep academy. Bully never quite amassed the level of fandom the Grand Theft Auto series garnered, but it’s largely considered to be a cult classic selling 1.5 million copies as of 2008.

The game’s diehard fans could soon be appeased, because Bully 2 might be just over the horizon. While Rockstar has only hinted at the unconfirmed game in the past, multiple rumors and leaks have built a strong case that the company’s next big project could once again be based around the scholastic shenanigans of a boardings school bully.

When Is the ‘Bully 2’ Release Date?

There’s no word on an official release date, but Bully-centric YouTuber SWEGTA claimed a Rockstar insider spilled the beans about when the publisher plans on launching its next title.

SWEGTA uploaded a video on August 4 relaying the message that his alleged anonymous source passed on to him. In short, Bully 2 could arrive late in 2020 along side the next-generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett consoles.

“The way [Rockstar] are going about this has completely changed. As it stands, they are aiming to release their next game during the holiday season in 2020 (most likely October or November),” SWEGTA claimed. “Basically what they want to do is release their next upcoming game on next-gen hardware (PS5 and the new Xbox), as well as on the current gen.”

SWEGTA’s source didn’t specifically state that Bully 2 would be Rockstar’s next release, but credible leaker Yan2295 tweeted back in April that Bully 2 is “supposed” to be the publisher’s next game after Red Dead Redemption 2. Next year, could finally deliver on the title Bully fans have been clamoring for.

Keep in mind that game release dates are always subject to change, so think of these leaks as the earliest the game could be launched.

When Will Rockstar Announce ‘Bully 2’?

If Rockstar is planning on releasing Bully 2 late in 2020 an announcement of the game could come very soon. The publisher hinted that it could be preparing for a big announcement shortly.

A photo of Rockstar’s Edinburgh, Scotland office was posted on Reddit August 9 showing the company tearing down its massive Red Dead Redemption 2 sign to apparently make room for another billboard.

Many GTA fans speculated it could be signs of a big Grand Theft Auto reveal. But if Yan2295’s timeline is correct, it’ll be Bully 2 up there next.

To top it off, there have been multiple sightings of a Bully 2 trademark filed by Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company. One was posted on Reddit in May, while Korean gaming YouTuber TV CheongTV published a video about finding the same trademark in July. Rockstar could very well be deep in the works.

Where Is ‘Bully 2’ Located?

The original Bully primarily took place in the fictional Bullworth Academy and the surrounding town set in the New England area of the United States. Jimmy is sent to the boarding school for a year while his mother and her new husband go on their honeymoon. According to the Bully 2 subreddit, this time gamers will get a taste of Jimmy’s home life.

Jimmy is said to move in with his stepfather in an entirely new town that has yet to be named. There could even be a summer camp setting, which might make up one of the chapters in the potential game.

When Does ‘Bully 2’ Take Place?

The sequel is said to take place directly after the original, so not that much time should pass between the two titles if Reddit’s predictions are accurate.

A specific year isn’t mentioned in the original Bully but seeing as the teens Jimmy hangs around don’t carry smartphones it’s safe to say the story takes place either in the 90s or early 00s.

Who Are the Characters in “Bully 2”?

Since Jimmy is expected to leave Bullworth Academy, a whole new set of characters will be introduced.

His mother and stepfather will likely play a similar role as the Bullworth administration did in the original, adults the Jimmy needs to avoid as he gets involved in mischief. Other than that, Reddit claims he’ll have some unnamed step siblings to deal with.

Aside from his family, two leaked character design sheets were tweeted out by Bully 2 Info an account dedicated to rumors about the game. The images claim to show two side-characters that Jimmy meets in the story, named Nick and Abe.

Nick is portrayed as an overweight, awkward geek while Abe is described as a wannabe war veteran who lives in the woods that is “armed to the teeth and completely psychotic, but turns out to be fake” and actually dodged the draft.

Both characters are seen in outfits that seem to align with potential summer camp setting. Nick has a life vest on while Abe is a survivalist with what seems to be boy scout badges pinned to his chest.

Bully 2 could take the franchise where it has never gone before, but a lot remains unknown about the game and without an official announcement we can’t be sure the game will ever come to fruition.

But with so much evidence surfacing, and with Bully’s thirteenth anniversary quickly approaching, it would seem like a natural next release for Rockstar. Especially after it revived Red Dead Redemption almost a decade past its original release.
