'Apex Legends' Season 2 Start Time: When Does the New Update Go Live?
We know at what time, but when will you get to play it?
by Corey PlanteApex Legends Season 2 launches on July 2, introducing a new playable character named Wattson and revamping the map with the theme of “Battle Charge,” but what time can players actually deploy into this new version of King’s Canyon?
In a Monday night Reddit post, Respawn community manager Jay Frechette confirmed a tentative Season 2 launch time of 1 p.m. Eastern. “We’re planning for the update to go live around 10:00 a.m. Pacific [we’ll let you know if that changes],” he wrote. “We’ll post update with patch notes once we’ve confirmed it’s live.”
One crucial piece of information to go along with the launch of Season 2? The update files are massive: Respawn estimates that the update for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players will be over 20 gb, and on PC, it will be over 18GB.
Frechette offers a long-winded explanation for why this update is so large in the Reddit post, but the gist of it is that with more significant updates, Respawn uploads a “fresh build of the game, with outdated content removed, so the game is faster for new players to download.”
This huge update should go live right around 1 p.m. Eastern, but downloading and installing an update that large will take players a significant amount of time. The average PS4 game is between 30 and 50GB in size, so this Apex Legends update is about half the size of a full game. That’ll take some time. Hopefully, players left their consoles on Rest mode so the update can still install.
Depending on your internet speed, this could take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. Estimates vary wildly. This might be frustrating for many players anxious to try out the new season, but this update is a long-term investment in the game’s overall quality.
