'Shazam!': Exclusive Comic Preview Reveals One Character Is a Serious Gamer

The kids who make up the mighty Shazam Family may have all the powers of immortal demigods, but one of them is really proud of his dope sniping skills in Fortnite. In an exclusive preview of Shazam! #2, the Shazam Family foster kids explore the underground Magiclands, located in the Rock of Eternity.

Out in stands on January 23, Shazam! #2 picks up where December’s Shazam! #1 left off, with the Shazam Family kids discovering the mysterious “Magiclands” — a series of interconnected lands that bear strange titles, such as “Wildlands” and “Gamelands.”

It’s upon discovering the “Gamelands” that the family’s tech whiz, Eugene Choi (played by Fresh Off the Boat’s Ian Chen in the Shazam! movie), brags about his elite gaming skills.

“My other superpower is virtual sniping,” he boasts.

Ah. So, Eugene is one of those gamers, the kind that “camp” in multiplayer death-matches (think games like Fortnite, Battlefield, and Call of Duty) by staying in one spot, picking off opponents when the time is right. While not all campers use snipers, it is common to catch snipers camping.

A sequel to Geoff Johns’ Shazam! from 2012 that was told within issues of Justice League, the new Shazam! takes place a year after the diverse foster Vasquez kids are gifted the same powers endowed to Billy Batson, the orphan boy who can transform when he says the word “Shazam.” Featuring a creative team of Geoff Johns, Dale Eaglesham, Marco Santucci, Michael Atiyeh, and Alex Sinclair, this Shazam! is heavily inspiring the new movie, making it a great entry point for those curious about the character.
