'Smash Ultimate' DLC Leaks: 3 Extremely Likely New Roster Additions

Five more characters are coming!

We may already know the final lineup for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at launch, but what about the DLC characters? Nintendo plans to release five additional fighters in the year after Ultimate’s release, and we may already know who a few of them are.

Not long after Nintendo’s big announcement last week, which revealed three new Smash Bros. Ultimate characters and the company’s DLC plans, one of the top Smash leakers (who goes by the pseudonym Vergeben online) chimed in with some additional details. Specifically, they hinted at two roster additions who’ll allegedly come from non-Nintendo 3rd party games.

Before we get into that, it’s also worth noting that Smash series director Masahiro Sakurai recently revealed that Nintendo’s already finalized its DLC line-up. That basically confirms that the information is out there and Nintendo won’t change it’s mind (even if some of the details leak out early).

With that in mind, here’s a couple of likely Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC additions, according to one of the most reliable sources of information outside of Nintendo itself.

Steve From Minecraft

Rumors that a Minecraft character would join the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster have been floating around for a very long time, and Vergeben has been at the center of a lot of those rumors. Now that we’ve moved into DLC leaks territory, he’s still not backing down.

In a discussion on the GameFAQs forum, the leaker reiterated his claims that a Minecraft character, like the starter skin, Steve, is still very probable as a Smash Bros Ultimate DLC addition. However, it is worth noting that they wouldn’t go so far as to confirm it 100%.

“It’s hard to say this any other way,” they write, “but the simplest way is that a deal was made which lead to content being agreed to be worked on and utilized.”

If a deal is still up in the air, then it’s possible Steve didn’t make it into Nintendo’s finalized DLC list, though it’s possible the companies could have already sorted things out.

“It’s not completely conclusive,” Vergeben clarifies, “which I why I personally have not said ‘Steve is one of the 5 DLC characters’ with the same certainty that I can about the Square Enix character.”

Speaking of Square Enix…

Geno from Square Enix

In another GameFAQs thread, Vergeben shot down rumors that Nintendo’s alleged deal with Square Enix was dead, adding that the two companies are still likely working together on a roster addition for Smash Bros. Ultimate.

It’s still unclear who that might be, but one popular guess is that Square Enix could bring Geno from Super Mario RPG to Nintendo’s fighting game. Square Enix developed the classic SNES title for Nintendo, so it would need to be involved in any sort of crossover now.

Then again, Square Enix also has plenty of other great characters who’ve appeared in more recent games, including Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) and Noctis (Final Fantasy XV). So anything’s possible.

Waluigi is finally in 'Super Smash Bro. Ultimate' ... in our dreams.

Bonus: Waluigi

This one is pure speculation on our part, but come on, it’s gotta happen, right? Nintendo previously admitted that it knows fans want Waluigi in the game, adding that the initial response came as a bit of shock.

So while we understand why Waluigi isn’t in the initial Ultimate roster, if he doesn’t get included as a DLC that will feel like a real slap in the face to fans. Hopefully, Nintendo can get it right this time.
