'Fortnite' Season 6 Pets: How to Unlock the New Items, a Definitive Guide

Why no love for cats?

by Corey Plante

The Fortnite Season 6 rumors and leaks were true. Pets have come to Fortnite: Battle Royale, but developer Epic Games apparently hates cats.

Fortnite Season 6 began early Thursday morning, and along with some radical map changes like a floating island, the new season also introduced Pets to the game as a new cosmetic. Similar to how Season 5 introduced Toys like the Golf Ball, Pets are the next big unlockable. But there’s only a dog, chameleon, and dragon — no cats.

Pets essentially function like interactive back bling, with each pet responding to different situations. In the Season 6 Battle Pass overview video, Bonesy hunkers down and looks like he’s growling during a firefight. In another shot, he howls in the middle of a field. And when the player skydives down to the map, the little dog frantically clings to their back. It makes for a fun bit of entertainment that’s always facing the player, but it might also be too distracting for some.

How do players unlock Pets in Fortnite Season 6? And why are there no cats?

The in-game Season 6 updates offers helpful info about Bonesy, Scales, and Camo.

Epic Games

So far, each available Pet is unlockable only through the Season 6 Premium Battle Pass as specific Tiers, which means players will have to at least spend the 950 V-Bucks on the pass. Bonesy the doc unlocks at Tier 12, Camo the chameleon unlocks at Tier 29, and Scales the dragon unlocks at Tier 49. Further style options for Bonesy and Scales can also be unlocked at deeper tiers of the Battle Pass. But it’s entirely possible that other pets — like cats — could be introduced in the Item Shop later this season (or maybe in Season 7).

Anyone that had the Season 5 Premium Battle Pass already starts with five free tiers, and there’s also the option to purchase a Season 6 bundle 2,800 V-Bucks that grants 25 extra tiers. In other words, spending about $30 worth of V-Bucks can instantly grant a player the base version of Bonesy, making it potentially worthwhile for any dog-lovers out there.

I, for one, will never remove Bonesy from my back ever again. Unless Epic add a cat. I mean come on, why isn’t there black cat for Halloween season?

Here’s the exciting trailer for Fortnite Season 6 and the “Darkness Rises” theme.
