Black Lightning is back, and so are all the bad guys. In an all new trailer for Season 2 of Black Lightning on The CW, the villains steal the spotlight as Black Lightning swears that he and Thunder will “always fight for justice.”

On Wednesday, The CW released a new trailer for Black Lightning Season 2, premiering October 9. The trailer has some new footage, but the biggest revelation is that some of the biggest bad guys to hit the streets in Season 1 are back.

Series villain Tobias Whale (Krondon), and henchmen like Syonide (Charlbi Dean) and Khalil/Painkiller (Jordan Calloway) appear in the trailer, by name, and are confirmed to return in the show’s second season.

While Black Lightning remains separate from the rest of the CW’s “Arrowverse” — including Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl — the show garnered a cult following after its premiere in early 2018.

Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, who also recently teamed up with Batman in the pages of Detective Comics from Bryan Edward Hill, Black Lightning follows high school principal Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) who moonlights as the electric vigilante Black Lightning. In his series, his eldest daughter Anissa (Nafessa Williams) also becomes a superhero with a similar powerset, going by the name Thunder.

Black Lightning Season 2 will air on The CW on October 9.
