It turns out the rumors were true. Gears of War is back! The Xbox-exclusive series is officially getting its next entry. Microsoft revealed Gears 5 during its E3 2018 presentation along with a couple of extras. Here’s everything you need to know.

Rod Fergusson, head of Gears of War developer The Coalition, came on stage at Microsoft’s E3 press conference Sunday to announce three new additions to the Gears of War franchise. The first being a mobile Funko Pop Gears game called Gears Pop. Then, Gears will go tactical with Gear Tactics, a strategy game similar to X-Com. Finally, there was the big announcement of a new game in the main series simply called Gears 5.

From what was shown, the new Gears game will focus on Kait Diaz and pick up months after the events of Gears of War 4. When her mother, Reyna, died in the previous game, Kait received a special amulet. In the footage shown, someone is found dead in a remote village. This could be Kait’s uncle, Oscar Diaz. She tells the rest of the group that she’s been having dreams about the locket and that she thinks they’re messages. Kait demands to learn about the amulet that has a Locust symbol on it. Del decides to go with her while J.D Fenix gives him a warning that the necklace could be controlling Kait.

In the clip that was a little more than four minutes, the bits of gameplay don’t show anything particularly new although there was a sweet spiked mace for melee attacks and some gruesome enemy turrets. If anything, the video was for Gears fans to get excited about the franchise coming back.

Gears 5 will release sometime in 2019 for the Xbox One and PC. Gears Pop will release for mobile next year as well. Gears Tactics will be a PC-only game with no release date announced.

As the case with these Microsoft E3 press conferences, the event started off with a bang with the announcement of Halo: Infinite.
