‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Presale Tickets Doubled ‘Black Panther'

The Force is strong with this one.

May the Fourth was not only a celebration of everything Star Wars, but it was also the first day to purchase advanced tickets for the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story. The spinoff film may not have enough Force to outperform Avengers: Infinity Wars, but it was able to surpass another successful Marvel film.

Movie ticket service Fandango announced Saturday that Solo: A Star Wars Story sold double the number of presale tickets for Marvel’s other 2018 big hit, Black Panther. It only came second to the number of advanced tickets sold for Infinity War.

Solo is spinoff film taking place years before Star Wars: A New Hope. The movie will show Han (Alden Ehrenreich) makes his way through the criminal underbelly of the galaxy and show his first meetings with iconic characters such as Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) and Chewbacca.

Back in January, Black Panther broke Fandango’s previous record for pre-sale tickets held by Captain America: Civil War. The movie featuring the Wakanda king went on to be the top box office movie for six weeks in a row, It took in $1.3 billion in worldwide tickets sales as reported by Box Office Mojo and made it to ninth place on worldwide gross ticket sales.

Solo: A Star Wars Story will release on May 25. It has double the Marvel competition when it comes out as Infinity War will likely stay on top of the box office charts throughout the month, and Deadpool 2 comes out the week before on May 18.

May the Fourth, also known as Star Wars Day, saw events across the globe celebrating the franchise. At London’s Heathrow Airport, a departures board listed multiple flights with destinations such as Hoth and Tatooine listed. The day after, known as Revenge of the Fifth, has yet to catch on among Star Wars fans.
