Kanye West "on Some Nerd Vibes" Tweeting About Next Album 'Turbo Grafx 16'

The internet reacts to Kanye West's announcement that his next album will be named after retro gaming system TurboGrafx-16.

If there’s one thing you have to respect about Kanye West, nothing gets him down. And another cool thing about Kanye? The rapper dad is literally up and tweeting about gaming at midnight on a Friday night. Yesterday the rapper fervently sent this message into the ether: “My next album is titled ‘Turbo Grafx 16’ as of now…” And the internet exploded with so many different emotions.

West is referring to, what is now, a retro gaming console, TurboGrafx-16, but was a regular old home entertainment system when it launched in the U.S. in 1987. Maybe a night in with a glass of merlot got West feeling a bit nostalgic, because dude went off remembering games like Blazing Lazers and playing The Super Spy on Neo Geo with his friend “Mali.”

In related news, he woke up early this a.m. to watch Zoolander 2 (“It is so inspiring. Thank you for existing!” he tweeted), worshiping the genius of Will Farrell.

The full TurboGrafx 16 thread is below, and it is also truly inspired.

West has had a rough month. His Valentine’s gift to the world was the underperforming Life of Pablo that couldn’t even be reanimated with features by Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, and the Weeknd. The night before the album launched (exclusively on Tidal …) the rapper made a particularly awkward SNL appearance, foreshadowing the next day’s ordeal.

But all Yeezy needs is one reinvigorating late night of gaming to get going again.

The internet’s responses to his announcement were, as usual, priceless. There were the thousands of clueless and boring tweeters and a number of confused responses. The best being:

Of course, some used it as a jumping off point for a good joke.

But most importantly, the gamers came through and showed their support.

This guy #RetroGaming even got into it with Perez Hilton in a very amusing exchange of gay meets gamer.
