The Boys Season 5 Trailer Finally Teases Its Long-Awaited Endgame
Looks like a blast.

For the better part of a decade, Eric Kripke’s The Boys has satirized the tidal wave of superhero media with irreverent, gory, and sexually explicit action that captured audiences from the get-go. But it’s hard to kick things up if you start at 100, and the upcoming fifth season will be the last one.
That could be a blessing in disguise, as we know there can be no more delaying the final fight against Homelander (Antony Starr). He’s more powerful than ever, and we know that he’ll recruit some familiar faces for this showdown, but a new sneak peek at Season 5 suggests that one of the series’ most infamous weapons is returning. Check out the teaser below.
The montage opens with Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) expressing surprise that Homelander is recruiting him, but it makes sense in the grand scheme of things. Soldier Boy is one of the most uncontrollable supes in the world, but he’s also one of the most powerful. With his Red-Scare-era powers, he has the potential to defeat even the most formidable hero.
Soldier Boy can emit a nuclear blast directly from his chest. It’s incredibly painful and rarely intentional, but if this blast hits a supe, it’s devastating. These beams can neutralize the Compound V in a superhero’s system, sapping them of their powers. Compound V can be topped up, so this isn’t permanent, but if this power is used in the show’s final confrontation, it could essentially disarm Homelander’s enemies, leaving them helpless against a final blow.
We saw this in action in Season 3, when Soldier Boy’s blast was aimed at Frenchie, only for Kimiko to jump in and take the hit without much damage. The blast knocks her through a concrete wall, and Kimiko later finds that her wounds won’t heal, and she doesn’t regain her regeneration powers until she’s injected with more Compound V.
That leads to the most important question raised by this clip: who’s on the other side of that nuclear blast? Considering that Soldier Boy is now working for Homelander, it’s presumably Butcher or someone else from The Boys. But we don’t actually see who he’s attacking, leaving the possibility that he’ll shift loyalties and fight against Homelander himself. Either way, this is a game-changing moment for the final confrontation fans have waited years to see.
