A huge 'American Horror Story: 1984' leak was just confirmed in Episode 7

An Instagram story may have spoiled the next time jump on 'AHS.'

American Horror Story: 1984 has deceptively continued to work around its title to explore different time periods. From the great Camp Redwood massacre of 1970 to Brooke’s death sentencing and the Night Stalker’s arrest in 1989, the series has employed time jumps as a way to keep the story fresh. It also means that all those theories about Season 9 taking place on a sound stage were totally wrong.

However, a recently leaked spoiler from the show’s own costume designer may have already confirmed the 1948 setting in Season 9, Episode 7 and could hint at when the next time jump will take place.

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Season 9, Episode 7 of American Horror Story: 1984.

If all the reveals and twists haven’t been enough, AHS: 1984 wowed us with another major shocker. As it turns out, it was Mr. Jingles’ mother, Lavinia, who is the source of the blood curse plaguing Camp Redwood (formerly known as Camp Golden Star). Back in 1948, Lavinia worked as a cook where her sons, Benjamin (now Mr. Jingles) and Bobby attended camp. Long story short, Bobby drowned and she blamed Benjamin for his death.

Mr. Jingles has mommy (not daddy) issues.

So overcome with grief and hatred, she slaughtered the camp counselors and almost killed Benjamin, too, but not before he stabbed and killed her first. Yikes. It was also revealed that Lavinia, now a ghost who essentially turned into the legend of the Woman in White, influenced Margaret to kill in 1970 (though Lavinia already believed there was already something “wrong” in Margaret’s head).

However, here’s the best part: The 1940s setting was seemingly confirmed before the episode even aired. Yup, one of AHS: 1984’s makeup and special effects artists recently posted an Instagram story celebrating the fact that Season 9 had been nominated for “best period/character makeup in a TV series”. In the post, she also spoiled (probably by accident) the 1948 setting before Episode 7 aired. Naturally, the post made its way to Reddit.

“This season of American Horror Story, we took our main cast between the time periods of 1940s, 1970s, early 1980s, late 1980s,” wrote the makeup artist.

Ok, cool, so the 1940s were accidentally confirmed. That’s fine, especially since the episode aired not long after the story was posted anyway. But, wait, there’s more! In addition to that unexpected spoiler, the Instagram story also revealed that the next time jump will be to 2019. Gasp! What?

As of right now, there’s no plot-based reason or indication that the series will be jumping forward to the present or how that would even tie into the storyline. Still, with three more episodes left in Season 9, there’s plenty of time to introduce that plot thread and show has already proven they’re not beholden to staying in 1984. Plus, there are already ghosts on the show, so it’s always possible they’re the ones still hanging out in Purgatory in 2019. Whatever the case may be, the best-case scenario is that it’s the last time period needed to tie the entire season together.

American Horror Story: 1984 airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on FX.
