'Stranger Things' Season 4 release date might be hidden in that new trailer

What is Netflix trying to tell us?

Dust off your proton pack because Stranger Things is back — sort of. Netflix officially confirmed that Season 4 is in the works, releasing a cryptic trailer that teased the tagline, “We’re not in Hawkins anymore,” but we still have no idea when the beloved sci-fi series will actually return. Or do we?

A large contingent of the internet seems convinced that the new teaser actually contains a pretty huge clue about the Stranger Things Season 4 release date, and it has everything to do with this creepy clock.

Still confused? Well, let me start by asking you a simple question: What time is it according to that clock? It’s a little tricky to make out, but some popular guesses online include midnight/noon, 12:30 or 11 o’clock. From there, fans have speculated that the time displayed in the Stranger Things Season 4 trailer could translate to a specific release date. So, if the clock says 12:30, Season 4 could arrive on December 30. And if it says 11, that could hint that the show will return in November. These dates also line up with some in-story clues about when the gang might reunite after Season 3 ended with Will and Eleven moving out of Hawkins.

This might all sound like a stretch, but remember that Stranger Things is 100% the type of show that loves to hide Easter eggs and clues in plain sight. Season 3 even featured a big hint early on that Russian spies would play a large role in the plot by placing a few keys books in a display window at Starcourt Mall. So we wouldn’t rule anything out just yet.

Then again, maybe if we’re really lucky we’ll get some more Stranger Things Season 4 even sooner. Rumor has it some new episodes we’re filmed along with Season 3. So perhaps Netflix will surprise us with a Thanksgiving or Christmas special episode later this year.

Stranger Things Season 4 is coming to Netflix … eventually.
