'Avengers 5' Release Date, Cast, Trailer, Title, and More to Know

A Thanos scarecrow from the end of 'Avengers: Infinity War' (2018)

It’s not inaccurate to say we know everything and nothing about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Endgame will mark the end of Phase 3 for the MCU, and we already know that Marvel Studios is preparing to release Spider-Man: Far From Home just a few months later. Other Phase 4 movies, including Black Widow, Black Panther 2, Shang-Chi, and The Eternals are in various stages of production. But what about Avengers 5?

As we look ahead to the next MCU phase, we’re going to make some educated guesses about what could happen with Avengers 5, who will be involved, and when the release date will arrive.

When Is Avengers 5 Release Date?

Avengers 5 doesn’t technically have a release date. However, we know that Marvel Studios has reserved at least nine weekends stretching from 2020 to 2022 which means Avengers 5 will likely be slotted into one of these already reserved spots.

So far, those nine weekends are:

  • May 1, 2020
  • July 21, 2020 (previously August 7)
  • November 6, 2020
  • May 7, 2021
  • July 30, 2021
  • November 5, 2021
  • February 18, 2022
  • May 6, 2022
  • July 29, 2022

We may not know the release date for Avengers 5 but this list of reserved weekend slots, combined with past Avengers films release dates, might provide some clues. Previously, The Avengers and Age of Ultron were released the first weekend of May 2012 and May 2015, respectively. Infinity War and Endgame were scheduled for released in April 2018 and April 2019, respectively.

Looking at this list, there are no April release dates but there are three May dates: May 1, 2020; May 7, 2021; and May 6, 2022. The 2020 date is way, way too soon for Avengers 5, especially since an Avengers film typically marks the climax or end of an ongoing story arc running through previous solo films. By 2020, we’ll have seen Far From Home and possibly 1 or 2 more movies, but it still wouldn’t make sense for Avengers 5 to come out at that time especially since there’s been no news it’s gone into production.

With that in mind, we like the looks of May 7, 2021 or May 6, 2022. The amount of time between then and now (at time of writing, it’s April 17, 2019) means there’s enough time to lay the groundwork for an overarching narrative that a fifth Avengers film could then focus on while also establishing the stories for new and veteran MCU heroes.

Is There a Trailer For Avengers 5 Yet?

There is no trailer but that makes sense since Avengers 5 exists only in name right now. When the film takes more shape and finally goes into production, we’ll be able to nail down a more specific release date for the trailer.

That said, teasers for Marvel films have been known to come out as far as a year in advance of the film’s release, while full-length trailers and TV spots get released approximately 3-6 months before the film is released. Expect Marvel Studios to have a carefully coordinated strategy when it comes to releasing trailers for Avengers 5.

What’s the Avengers 5 Title?

It’s way too soon to say for sure (Marvel probably doesn’t even know), but it’s possible that Avengers: Endgame could contain a clue. After all, the title for the upcoming movie was spoken in the previous team-up adventure, Avengers: Infinity War. So don’t be surprised if Marvel pulls the same trick with Avengers: 5.

Who Is Returning For the Avengers 5 Cast?

It’s hard to say which characters will return for Avengers 5, but we can make some logical guesses.

Among the veteran MCU heroes, we know that Iron Man and Captain America will likely die or leave the scene, but characters like Black Widow, Hulk, Thor, and Hawkeye could still appear in future movies. Black Widow is the top candidate among the existing Avengers since she’s all but confirmed to her own movie in Phase 4, which could logically tie into whatever happens in Avengers 5.

Additionally, you can probably count on Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Falcon, Winter Soldier, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Spider-Man, Shang-Chi, Doctor Strange, and the Guardians of the Galaxy popping up. These heroes are all still fairly new or yet to be introduced into the MCU, which means they could get some much-needed screentime.

What Is the Plot of Avengers 5 ?

The plot is still unknown! But we already know that the MCU likes to establish an overarching storyline that ties in to each individual film that precedes a big film involving the Avengers. Expect the breadcrumbs to be laid for the Avengers 5 story in post-credits scenes and Easter eggs in the Phase 4 films that come before it. It could even start as early as the Endgame post-credits scenes.

One exciting thing to look forward to is the assembling of an entirely new crew. Avengers 5 will most likely involve a new team of heroes coming together to save the day from a new villain, and there’s still plenty of fresh faces ready and waiting to flex their powers.
