'How to Train Your Dragon 3' Trailer 2Proves Toothless Is Bad at Flirting

Everyone’s favorite black Night Fury dragon is hilariously bad at flirting, and that’s never been more evident than in the second full trailer for How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.

DreamWorks released the new trailer on Thursday, and in it, just as a huge army hellbent on capturing all the dragons appears, Hiccup and Toothless discover a white female Night Fury that’s dubbed a “Light Fury” by Astrid. Even as things get borderline apocalyptic due to the invading army, the third and final entry in the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy still promises plenty of laughs as the dragons continue to behave like big cat-dogs.

There’s a glorious moment as Toothless and the new dragon fly up into the sky and their tails almost touch, making the silhouette of a heart shape. But by far the most enjoyable thing to watch is how terribly bad Toothless is at flirting with this new companion.

We saw some of this in the first trailer, but there’s even more this time around. After the white dragon prances around, Toothless does a bizarre peacocking maneuver. And then he does a weird headbobbing maneuver. So in addition to playing fetch like a dog and purring like a cat, Toothless also has mating dances like a bird.

They’re pretty much the best thing this franchised has ever delivered in terms of dragon behavior, and it’s also strangely relatable on the human level as well.

It’s a good thing that Toothless strikes up a great bond with this new dragon when he does because the entire island of humans and dragons get attacked by an entire armada that wants to enslave the dragons. They’re going to need all the help they could possibly get.

But also, more mating dances please.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World will be released in theaters on February 22, 2019.
