'AHS Season' 8 Spoilers: 5 Characters That Might Be the Actual New Supreme

Or will Cordelia continue to be the HBIC?

by Josie Rhodes Cook

The moment American Horror Story fans have been waiting for is almost here. In Season 8, Episode 6, AHS is headed back to the Murder House, and after a season that’s already brought back characters from Coven, much to the delight of fans, the return is really just the cherry on top of an AHS installment full of wish fulfillment alongside its usual scares and spooky twists.

In recent episodes of American Horror Story: Apocalypse, Cordelia — the current Supreme and most powerful witch around — revealed that she’s fading and a new Supreme will have to take her place. The last time that happened, back in Coven — Season 3 of the show — Cordelia became the Supreme after her mother held the position. So, who’s going to be the Supreme after Cordelia Goode?

5. Is Mallory the next Supreme?

YouTube

AHS has dropped a lot of hints that Mallory is much more powerful than she seems. There’s always a chance she’ll be the next Supreme if Cordelia fades, but there are also some very popular theories that she’s not a witch at all; that she’s actually an angel, nephilim, or some other supernatural being. In any case, she makes Michael Langdon nervous, and that’s enough to tell fans she’s got potential.

4. Will Coco will surprise us all?

American Horror Story fans now know that at some point in the past, Coco showed up at Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies and explained her strange ability to sense gluten. That may not seem like a big deal, but Cordelia felt like she had potential, and this show does like its big twists. Maybe there’s more to Coco than the vapid socialite she seems to be so far.

3. Fan favorite Misty Day is a contender for the crown

Misty Day is back on American Horror Story, and although she failed the test of the Seven Wonders before, there’s always a chance she could have been brought back stronger than ever when Michael resurrected her. Cordelia clearly adores her, and would likely feel better leaving her coven and the world in Misty’s hands. Plus, how fun would it be for kooky Misty to be the most powerful witch there is?

2. What about Emily?

YouTube

Sure, it seems like Emily already died on an earlier Apocalypse episode, but this American Horror Story doesn’t always let characters stay dead. The truth is, viewers learned very little about Emily even when she was alive on the show, so there are a lot of blanks to fill in about the character.

Who knows? Maybe Emily will come back and shock everyone. Or maybe she was a fairly pointless addition to AHS who’s gone for good. It could go either way.

1. No one is the new Supreme, long live Cordelia

YouTube

The timeline of Apocalypse has been a little difficult to follow, but it does seem like the scenes where Cordelia is “fading” and when she talks about a new Supreme taking over happen in the “past” before the whole end of the world storyline. In this later timeline, when she shows up at the outpost, Cordelia seems fine. In that case, a new Supreme isn’t needed yet at all.

So, is Cordelia faking that she’s dying and a new Supreme will have to take over in the past timeline? Or is Michael somehow manipulating things so she only thinks she’s fading? And what happened between when Michael passed the Seven Wonders test and the end of the world? Hopefully, these are the sorts of questions American Horror Story will continue to answer as this crossover season continues.

American Horror Story airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on FX.
