'Fortnite' Leaked Rift Event Delayed to Coincide With Week 7 Challenges

Just a few days until something big happens.

It appears this week is full of delays for Fortnite: Battle Royale. Epic Games announced Monday its regularly scheduled days for updates and challenges will be pushed back to later this week, and the storyline event planned for Tuesday also got pushed back.

At the beginning of August, data miners discovered a snippet of code indicating an event would happen on August 21 in Fortnite: Battle Royale. The name for the event was “BR_S5_Rift_Shrink,” referring to the current Season 5 and the shrinking of the Rift in the sky, which showed up after the rocket launch at the end of June. Players noticed last week the Rift started getting smaller, but when viewing the anomaly Tuesday, it appears it went back to its original size.

However, just like how they found the date of the event in the first place, data miners discovered a snippet of code showing a new day for the Rift shrink. Data miner FNBRLeaks tweeted Tuesday the updated code indicating the new date to be Friday, August 24, at 4 a.m. Eastern.

The updated date and time fall in line with the changes to this week’s update Epic announced Monday, but there’s a slight difference. Thursday morning, August 23, is when the new v5.30 update should take place, usually around 4 a.m. Eastern. On Friday, the Week 7 Challenges will go live, and although there is not a set time for when that occurs, it’s usually early in the morning as well. Also, this is the final week of the Road Trip Challenges, which means players should learn about the Road Trip Challenge skin as their reward for completing all the tasks.

Thursday and Friday will be big days for Fortnite: Battle Royale. It’s unknown what Epic will do on both days, but with Season 5 coming to an end, it’s time for the developer to start preparing for Season 6.

The Rift shrinking was the first storyline event found by data miners, but it wasn’t the first to take place. Sunday saw a Rift appear in Tomato Town and returned something that’s been missing for some time.
