'Fortnite' Version 5.10 Brings Guided Missile Back for Fly Explosives LTM

Jetpacks and explosives galore.

Epic Games

The version 5.10 update (1.69 on PS4) from Epic Games dropped Tuesday morning, bringing back both the Guided Missile and the Jetpack. The latest limited time mode to hit Fortnite: Battle Royale offers tons of jetpacks and explosives for players to tinker with. That might sound like a lot of fun, but it’s going to be really difficult to actually eliminate anybody with an explosion when they’re flying through the air.

The patch notes tease the Guided Missile by encouraging players to ride it: “Scan the battlefield from above, weave through obstacles, and rocket ride teammates into the action.”

It’s also the perfect weapon for the new “Fly Explosives” LTM which limits weapons to explosives only and increased floor spawns for jetpacks, while also integrating “increased fuel regen rate & decreased burn rate” for said jetpacks.

Epic’s patch notes tease that “it’s a blast for the whole squad. Use Jetpacks to fly above your foes and rain down in this explosives only game mode.”

Everyone's favorite ridable missile launcher is back in 'Fortnite'.

It’s worth noting that this new update also reactivates the beloved Playground limited time mode as well, where jetpacks and guided missiles will also be enabled.

Across the board, the Guided Missile did get a couple of light nerfs, with these being the most glaring:

  • Fuse duration reduced from 18 to 15 seconds.
  • Movement Speed decreased from 1100 to 1000.

That means not only will every missile move slower, but it’ll burn out faster. So arguably the most fun feature of these missiles — riding them across the sky — takes a pretty heavy hit.

Overall damage output has also been reduced by more than 30 percent. Structure damage from Guided Missiles was also slashed from 1100 to 400. This time around, players won’t be spamming Guided Missiles like they used to because their overall damage output took a heavy hit. But hey, at least they’re back, right?
