Some gamers take issue with microtransactions in video games. Other gamers, in particular Fortnite players, find themselves throwing money at their screens for a newly released skin.

Epic Games, developer of Fortnite, released a new skin for the game on Thursday as part of the latest update. The Raven outfit is dark and ominous unlike many of the other skins in the game, which makes it irresistible for many players. At a cost of 2000 V-Bucks, or approximately $20, gamers flocked to purchase so much of the in-game currency in order to obtain the new skin that the company’s system was having a hard time keeping up with all the transactions.

“We are aware of some players having issues when purchasing V-Bucks. We are checking into it,” said a tweet from the official Fornite account. The company did tweet a few hours later that it resolved the issue.

On the Fortnite subreddit, players flooded the board with so many threads about Raven that moderators intervened and created a megathread to discuss it. The top comment expressed the attitude many felt regarding the skin: “I just spent $28 on a skin and glider. Where did I go wrong in life.”

The Raven skin is currently available for purchase in the Fornite shop for 2,000 V-Bucks. Players can also opt to purchase the matching glider for an additional 800 V-Bucks. The game’s popularity has meant big money for Epic Games, which already earned $15 million for the iOS version of the game in less than one month.

Since its release in September 2017, Fortnite began gaining popularity among gamers with its addictive and unique battle royale gameplay. Last March, more than 600,000 people watched Twitch streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins play the game with special guest teammate, rapper Drake. Earlier this week during his appearance on Ellen, Logic called out Drake’s Fornite skills in what could be the first ever video game rap feud.
