‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 2 Trailer Shows a Whole New Offred

When viewers last saw Offred on The Handmaid’s Tale, she was being carted away from the Commander’s home to an unknown destination. Was she on the way to her own execution? Or did she get saved by Nick and the Mayday operatives? While the answers to those questions may have to wait until the series returns on April 25, Hulu has given fans a look at the upcoming second season in a new teaser trailer.

On Wednesday, the network released the trailer, which offers a few glimpses into Season 2. The trailer, which ends with #ResistSister, was released on International Women’s Day.

The teaser opens with Offred laying down on what appears to be the same vehicle she was in at the end of the Season 1 finale. We get flashes of many characters from the show as Offred’s voiceover reminds us what the oppressive society she lives in is really like. She describes the red dresses and the obedience demanded upon her by this theocratic society, all before saying, “Seriously. What the actual fuck!?”

This closing line could mean we’ll get an even more defiant Offred in Season 2. While she spent most of the first season in quiet rebellion, Offred is primed to join the revolution in Gilead now that she might be free.

We’re reminded of the horrid treatment Ofglen suffered. Between that and Offred seeing her own child with another family, along with the discovery of Mayday’s existence, may have finally pushed Offred to the point of outright rebellion.

Other familiar faces in Gilead also show up in the new trailer. There’s Offred’s best friend Moira and also Serena Joy, whose home Offred was forced to live in. There’s also a glimpse of Season 1 fan-favorite Ofglen, who viewers met as Offred’s shopping buddy that turned out to be a Mayday operative.

Fortunately for fans of the character, Ofglen is returning for Season 2 as a series regular after only appearing in a handful of episodes in Season 1.

A real rebellion might be brewing for Season 2, and Offred will probably be a part of it.

The Handmaid’s Tale returns for Season 2 April 25, 2018 on Hulu.
