'Avengers: Infinity War' Trailer Delivers New Footage of a Cosmic War

Worth the wait!

Marvel Studios

The wait for the Avengers: Infinity War trailer has felt, well, infinite, but it’s finally over. As promised, Marvel has finally released the first official trailer for one of the most-hyped superhero movies of all time, as Infinity War is bringing almost every character in the MCU together to face a cosmic threat who they’ve been teasing for half a decade: Thanos.

In the trailer, we get tons of all-new footage in which Thanos invades Earth, with New York City being some kind of focal point. There’s a shot of Bruce Banner having no doubt crash-landed somewhere in the city as the Hulk. There’s also a massive battle that probably takes place somewhere near Wakanda. Along the way, we get a check-in with almost every character in the MCU.

Perhaps most frightening, however, are shots of Thanos dropping two Infinity Stones into his gauntlet — Space (blue) and Power (purple) — and yet another of someone using a lance to pry the yellow Mind Stone out of Vision’s head. The Earth is in trouble, and so are the Avengers.

For resourceful Marvel fans, this probably isn’t the first Infinity War footage they’ve seen, but for most of them, it’s almost certainly the first official look at the movie. Marvel unveiled an amazing trailer at Disney’s D23 in July or 2017, then showed that same footage again at San Diego Comic Con later that month. Though Marvel never officially released that footage, it leaked, which is how the rest of us know that Thor gets wrecked, Spider-Man and Dr. Strange team-up, and Thanos is a badass.

Here is the official synopsis for Infinity War:

“As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment — the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.”

Avengers: Infinity War will premiere on May 4, 2018.
