'Stranger Things' Teases "Judgement Day" in Final Season 2 Trailer

by James Grebey

Stranger Things’s first season was an unexpected, delightful hit, as Netflix audiences loved the throwback, almost quaint ‘80s horror vibes. Well, if the final trailer is anything to go by, the show’s sophomore season is going to up the stakes in a big way. If Season 1 was mostly about finding Will Byers, Season 2 is going to be about “judgment day.”

The trailer, which hit the web on Friday the 13th (spooky!), opens with Eleven, now sporting longer hair, picking up some Eggo waffles that Cheif Hopper has been leaving in a box in the woods ever since the Season 1 finale. Things get much more intense from there, though, as the gang suspects that the visions Will Byers has been getting since returning from the Upside-Down are “happening for a reason” — and that giant monster we’ve seen glimpses of before looks more threatening than ever.

“It’s not like it was before,” Hopper says in a voiceover. “It’s grown.”

“It’s judgment day,” Dustin responds. “Which is why we need as much help as we can get.”

Fittingly, the trailer shows some of the new characters in additions to our Season 1 favorites, including Sean Astin’s Bob and Sadie Sink’s Max.

It’s a pretty epic trailer, in no small part because of the music. It’s not “Thriller, but the way the trailer is presented really hammers home the idea that Netflix is treating Season 2 more like a movie sequel than a second run of episodes.

Stranger Things 2 hits Netflix on October 27.
