This 'Last Jedi' Character Might Not Live to See 'Episode IX'

Lucasfilm

Turns out it might not pay to be the military leader of an oppressive, intergalactic regime. General Hux actor Domhnall Gleeson hinted in an interview published Wednesday that his character might not make it all the way to the J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars: Episode IX.

What Happened

Gleeson, who achieved new levels of fame for his role as General Hux in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), spoke with Comingsoon.net at the Goodbye Christopher Robin junket in London. He praised Abrams for his work on Force Awakens and also looked to the future.

The question is whether or not General Hux will make it to Episode IX.

“So I’ll look forward to seeing it or being in it, depending on whichever it is,” Gleeston said. “There ya go, talk about hedging your bets!”

What it Means

Hux’s fate is up in the air, but so is everyone else’s. No one expected Han Solo (Harrison Ford) to bite the dust in Force Awakens, so Star Wars fans shouldn’t expect for anyone to be safe. Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson could very well kill Hux (and anyone else) off for good.

It’s also worthwhile to keep in mind, though, that all the actors involved with Star Wars are held to strict secrecy. Hux might live after all; Gleeson just isn’t allowed to say one way or another.

What’s Next

We’ll discover General Hux’s fate when Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters on December 15.
