New 'Pokemon GO' Event Wants Players to Become Archaeologists

Adventure Week is all about Rock and Fossil Pokémon — and walking, of course.

'Pokémon GO'

The latest Pokémon GO event calls for players to dabble in Poké-archaology during “Adventure Week,” mainly to catch more Rock-type Pokémon and rare, ancient fossil Pokémon like Omanyte, Kabuto, and their evolutions, along with Aerodactyl.

Unlike the previous event, “Worldwide Bloom” — which only boosted the spawn rates of Grass-type Pokémon for a weekend — Adventure Week will do much more.

In addition to increased spawn rates of Rock-type Pokémon, the weeklong event for would-be adventurers provides more drops from PokéStops and a 50 percent discount on Poké Balls in the shop. Buddy Pokémon will also find Candy four times as fast, which will give players that walk a lot the opportunity to target specific Pokémon in their roster to collect Candy for, and eventually evolve. Though there are no boosts to anything Egg-related, it’s still an opportunity for players to simultaneously collect Candy and hatch Eggs.

Lucky players will come out of the event with Rhydon, Kabutops, Omastar, and Aerodactyl in their roster, along with this little guy:

Larvitar should be your focus.

Yep, increased spawning for Rock Pokémon means that there’s never been a better time to focus on finding and evolving a Larvitar into Tyranitar, one of the absolute best Pokémon in almost every game it appears in.

Pokémon GO’s Adventure Week kicks off on May 18 at 4 p.m. Eastern and concludes on May 25 at 4 p.m. Eastern.
