All the Easter Eggs in the 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Trailer

From Vader's silhouette to barely-heard dialogue, here's everything you might have missed.

After nearly two years since the end of The Force Awakens finally revealed the face of Luke Skywalker, the new trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi throws a few forceful curveballs. Not only do we not get a good look at Luke, but the famous hero tells us it’s “time for the Jedi to end.” Like any good film preview, the teaser trailer for The Last Jedi created more questions for fans than answering any existing ones. Laura Dern’s new character was nowhere in the trailer, nor was Kelly Marie Tran’s character, Rose. Snoke lovers were similarly left in the cold.

And yet, there was a lot in this trailer. Director Rian Johnson showed the footage twice with the crowd at Star Wars Celebration, but one probably has to watch it more than a few times to catch everything. Here are all the details you may have missed, including the voices of Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and even a strange, oblique visual reference to Darth Vader himself.

Rey Has Grown More Powerful Than We Can Possibly Imagine

In a scene that will make everyone remember Superman in 2012’s Man of Steel, Rey’s connection to the Force seems to have grown a great deal since the last time we saw her in The Force Awakens.

Like Father, Like Daughter?

Presumably, this person looking at map of the galaxy is General Leia. But, just for a second, her silhouette looks a little like Darth Vader. Maybe it’s the hair, or maybe it’s intentional.

Kylo Ren Is Over Wearing a Helmet and Has a Scar Now.

Is that Vader’s smashed helmet? Nah. That shiny trim makes us think this is definitely Kylo Ren’s helmet. Apparently he’s over wearing it all the time …

… and the next time we see him in the trailer he’s sans helmet and rocking an Anakin Skywalker-esque facial scar!

Ancient Books and Jedi Order Logo

Star Wars adds books and paper the galaxy! Just how old these books are isn’t clear. But the detail on the page of one of the books clearly shows the logo for the Jedi Order. This logo first popped up on The Clone Wars TV show, where it frequently adorned battle armor worn by Obi-Wan and Anakin. The biggest question about this page: Who is touching it? Is that a white-glove? Who is wearing a white glove?

Classic Dialogue From Obi-Wan and Yoda

As the frame zooms in on Kylo Ren’s helmet, there’s an echo of Obi-Wan Kenobi saying, “Vader was seduced by the Dark side.” When the ancient books are show, Yoda can faintly be heard saying “strong.”

Finn Is in a Coma Still, But He’s “stable”

Finn is not seen in action in the trailer, but instead, he’s still in some kind of medical pod. This makes it seem like the movie takes place right after the events in The Force Awakens. Fans online have already translated the Aurebesh characters on the pod and claim the readout says “stable.” So Finn is okay!

New Ships Attacking New AT-AT Walkers Look Like B-wings, but Are Probably “Skimmers”

Though the prequels introduced a ton of new ships, most of the spaceships in The Force Awakens were either updated older designs (like X-wings and Star Destroyers) or literally older ships, like the Millennium Falcon. But now, there are some new Resistance ships which Rian Johnson has called “skimmers.” These ships look like they are about to attack some walkers, which might be the “gorilla walkers” that have been rumored to appear. This scene could take place on the planet Crait, which Johnson told EW on Friday is “an old Rebel base there that’s now abandoned.”

Poe’s X-wing Gets Blown Up … Again?

Poe Dameron is briefly glimpsed running through what looks like the hangar of a big Resistance ship. But then, everything goes boom. Is this a reference to Poe’s X-wing getting destroyed at the beginning of The Force Awakens? Is this a running gag now?

Who is Flying the Millennium Falcon?

Swooping in to blow up some TIE fighters, the Millennium Falcon is back. But who’s gonna fly it this time? Rey? Maybe after Poe’s X-wing gets blown up, he’ll get a shot.

Rey Running With a Lightsaber

Seemingly still training with Luke, Rey is shown briefly running. This seems like the first time we’ve seen someone run with while holding a lightsaber since Obi-Wan Kenobi did in the prequels. When the Rey family questions were broached again during The Last Jedi panel at Star Wars Celebration on Friday, Daisy Ridley noted that it was “popular” to mention that Rey was related to Obi-Wan Kenobi.

R2-D2 With Luke in a Flashback as Captain Phasma Emerges From Some Flames

Though C-3PO doesn’t make an appearance, it appears Luke Skywalker is briefly glimpsed from behind with 3PO’s best buddy, R2-D2. Something is burning on the horizon. Could this be the dark flashback that explains what happened to Luke’s Jedi school? The next part of the clip shows Captain Phasma and some stormtroopers advancing, but it stands to reason this could have happened at different times.

The Jedi Are So Over!

The big twist of the new trailer is easily the final moments with Luke Skywalker says morosely, “I know only one truth: It’s time for the Jedi to end.” Seemingly, the title of The Last Jedi will hold more meaning than what any fan previously assumed. If this film is to be The Empire Strikes Back of the new trilogy, it’s already delivering on the darkness.
