'The Mandalorian' may reveal how Palpatine dies in 'Rise of Skywalker'

Is this how the Emperor meets his end?

Lucasfilm

The Mandalorian is finally here, and with it, Lucasfilm may be dropping some major clues about the plot of Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker. We can’t say we’re surprised since the new Disney+ show takes place right after Episode VI, theoretically setting up the entire sequels trilogy (that’s *VII through IX), but we didn’t expect such a huge bombshell reveal in Episode 1.

Huge Mandalorian spoilers and possible The Rise of Skywalker spoilers below.

We’ve been over this a few times already, so I’ll be quick: At the end of The Mandalorian Episode 1, we learn that the bounty hunter has been hired to kill an infant alien from the same species as Yoda. That’s a pretty big twist considering we previously thought Yoda was the last of his kind.

Assuming Mando doesn’t fulfill his bounty and kill that baby alien in Episode 2 (and we’re pretty sure he won’t, because Disney), it seems like a safe bet that this new character will play a major role in the rest of the Mandalorian. But could it also show up in The Rise of Skywalker?

It actually kind of makes sense. If this baby alien is 50 years old in The Mandalorian (remember, the real Yoda died at age 900) then he’d only be about 80 years old in The Rise of Skywalker. What does an 80-year-old Yoda look like? We have no idea, but he’s probably pretty badass.

Considering the original Yoda’s awesome Force powers, we’re willing to bet this baby alien is similarly skilled. Yoda achieved the status of Jedi Master at age 100, so by 80 years old, he was probably powerful enough to do some serious damage.

This brings us to Star Wars: Episode IX and Emperor Palpatine (aka, that one Sith who kicked Yoda’s butt that one time).

Yoda vs. Palpatine

Lucasfilm

With old Palpy set to make a comeback in The Rise of Skywalker, it’s easy to assume that the Emperor will face off against Rey and a reformed Kylo Ren (a couple of old Force ghosts might even pitch it in to help). But is that really enough? Taking down Palpatine will require a pretty powerful Force user, and there’s no one more powerful than Yoda — except maybe this Yoda-looking offspring.

Is Palpatine going to get killed by an alien Yoda teenager in Episode IX? It might sound ridiculous, but weirder things have happened in this galaxy far, far away.

Star Wars: The Rise of Baby Yoda Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
