'Fortnite' Season 9 Teaser 2 Confirms New Theme, Introduces New Hero

The future just became a bit more clear.

Epic Games

At first, the future was “Unknown” in Fortnite: Battle Royale, but now it’s “Bright.” Epic Games released the second official teaser Tuesday morning for the upcoming Fortnite Season 9, essentially confirming that the new season’s theme is related to the “Future” in some way. It also introduces a new character and offers a big clue as to how these teasers will form a kind of puzzle.

The new character in the second teaser looks like a female version of the Doom Slayer from the Doom games, or perhaps even a little bit like Samus Aran from Nintendo’s Metroid games. The caption reads, “The Future is Bright.” This framing and capitalization is identical to the Monday teaser featuring a male robotic character, captioned, “The Future is Unknown.”

At this point, “Future” must relate to the overall theme of the new season, with “Unknown” and “Bright” as the names for these two new characters? “Bright” also reminds us of Brite Bomber, one of the most recognizable Fortnite skins that’s been around since December 2017.

Could these two be related? Is “Bright” just Brite Bomber from the future?

There’s also the emerging hint that these teasers are spelling out a word. The first teaser was framed in a huge blue “N” and the second is in a red “E.”

Historically, these teasers begin on either Sunday or Monday and the last is released the day before. If that holds true for Season 9, then the final teaser should be tomorrow (Wednesday). Does that mean these will spell out some kind of three-letter word? It’d have to be either “NEW” or “NET,” but neither of those seem all that interesting.

One fan on Reddit hopes that these teasers will eventually spell “NERF,” but for that to be the case, tomorrow would have to be “R” and Thursday would obviously have to be “F.” Except Epic Games has never featured a teaser on the day the new season is released.

Whatever hint these letters are meant to provide, we’ll know more when the third teaser drops Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Eastern. Until then, the future remains “Unknown.”

Fortnite: Battle Royale Season 9 will begin Thursday, May 9.
