When it comes to Game of Thrones no one is safe, and Season 8 won’t be any different. With the show’s final six episodes, we’re all on high alert that our favorite characters could end up dead — or worse, transformed into members of the Night King’s undead army. But there’s one beloved Game of Thrones character who’s gone overlooked but might not make it through Season 8: Jon’s direwolf Ghost.
Look, even typing those words makes us shudder, but if it’s going to happen, we’d rather know now than be forced to face that horrible event unprepared. After all, Game of Thrones can kill off as many human characters is it wants in Season 8, but Ghost would sting worst of all.
“How much you wanna bet when we get Jon and Ghost finally fighting together he’s going to die in battle?” they wrote. “It’s such a cop out but it sounds like something they’d do at this point.”
Jon Snow left Ghost behind in Winterfell when he traveled to Dragonstone to meet Danyres in Season 7. Previously released footage from Game of Thrones Season 8 teased a reunion between Jon and Sansa (along with tense introductions between Sansa and Dany), but we have to assume that Jon and Ghost will reunite moments later.
We really, really hope that Ghost makes it through Game of Thrones alive, though there might just be a silver lining. Losing Ghost in a battle with the Night King might also inspire Jon to rally again and eke out a victory and save humanity, but at what cost?
Game of Thrones Season 8 premieres April 14 on HBO.
