'Star Wars: Episode 9' Trailer Release Date: Leak Says It's Coming Xmas Eve

At least give us the title!

Do you feel it? Millions of voices crying out in anguish? That’s the sound of Star Wars fans around the world realizing that the first trailer for Episode IX clearly isn’t dropping on December 20 (aka, exactly one year before the movie’s 2019 release). However, plenty of people still think the trailer — or at least a title — could arrive before the end of the year. Now, a new leak is giving us new hope all over again.

A recent post to the Star Wars Speculation subreddit from redditor u/Indominus-Rekt claims to reveal that Disney is planning to make a big splash at the end of the year by releasing a new trailer during the Broncos vs. Raiders NFL game on Christmas Eve.

“I’ve heard this now from several independent sources,” they write. “Disney is closing the year with ‘a bang.’”

The leaker goes on to note that it could be any Disney movie coming in 2019, which also includes Frozen 2, Aladdin, and The Lion King, but notes that “the secrecy surrounding this is normally reserved for Marvel or Star Wars.” The trailers forAvengers: Endgame and Captain Marvel are already here, so that really only leaves Star Wars as the clear choice.

Before you get too excited, it’s worth noting that this leaker could be making everything up or they could have incorrect information. They definitely don’t have any sort of proven track record. In a previous “leak”, u/Indominus-Rekt hinted that they might work for Disney or Lucasfilm, but again, there’s no evidence to back that up.

Meanwhile, in a mega-thread devoted to the highly anticipated Episode IX trailer, fans are sounding off on when the teaser and title might finally be revealed. The consensus seems to be that we’ll have to wait until Star Wars Celebration in April, 2019. Then again, with Avengers: Endgame coming out in late April, Disney may want to space out that hype.

Others suggested that a very brief teaser revealing the title of Episode IX and nothing more could arrive in late December or January, with the actual trailer still coming at Star Wars Celebration in April.

That definitely seems possible, but we’re still holding out hope that Disney will bless us with some Star Wars: Episode IX news in time for the holidays.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
