'Sabrina' Renewed for Season 3 and 4: Watch Salem the Cat Announce the News
Praise Satan you witches because Netflix has officially ordered 16 more episodes of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina after “Part 2” debuts in April, and they announced it in the cutest way possible by putting the big news all in the paws of Salem the cat.
Netflix announced the news via its sci-fi and fantasy-themed NX Twitter account in the form of a video featuring Salem the Cat as he sits at the bottom of the main staircase in Spellman Sister’s Mortuary. “Want more Chilling Adventures of Sabrina?” the cat asks via subtitles as he paws at a Magic 8-Ball. “Part 2 coming April 5. But that’s not all. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has also been renewed for Parts 3 & 4! Meow.”
All this comes only a few days after Netflix released the Sabrina Christmas special, A Midwinter’s Tale, this past Friday.
To be honest, we’ll probably all wind up calling those new episodes “Season 3” and “Season 4” even if Netflix officially designates it at “Parts 3 and 4.” Technically, even A Midwinter’s Tale was included in “Part 1” and the upcoming episodes due out in April are “Part 2” rather than Season 2. That nomenclature is consistent even within the Netflix app, but it’s annoying for anyone used to traditional TV seasons.
Based on Netflix’s original 20-episode order for the show, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 2 should run 9 episodes. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa described Part 2 as “sexier,” adding, “Now that we know everyone and we’ve really established the world, we can play in it a little more rather than build it. It feels a little more ambitious and rollicking than Part 1.”
We only imagine that Seasons Parts 3 and 4 will dive even deeper into the authentic world the show has already established, but until Part 2 premieres on Netflix, it will be tough to say exactly what we can expect beyond that.
*Chilling Adventures of Sabrina “Part 2” — essentially Season 2 — will hit Netflix on April 6, 2019.
