Kiernan Shipka has cast a spell on viewers as the new Sabrina Spellman in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix. Since many of us finished Season 1 by Halloween, all we can think about is when we might expect Season 2.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was released on Netflix Friday, October 26 — the last Friday before Halloween 2018 — and thankfully Season 2 is already on its way.

Season 1 explored the dark adventures of Sabrina Spellman, a half-mortal, half-witch who lives with her two aunts and cousin in the quiet — but spooky — town of Greendale. (It’s only one town over from Riverdale as both that series from The CW and this one share a continuity in Archie Comics.) On her 16th birthday, Sabrina is slated to sign the Book of the Beast and forsake her mortal life to become a full witch, but she has other plans for her destiny. Season 1 details the fallout of Sabrina’s choice to live in both worlds, embracing the light and the darkness.

But what’s next for her after Season 1?

Full spoilers follow for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 1.

What Is the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 2 Release Date?

Netflix announced in early December that Season 2 would be released on Friday, April 5, 2019.

Inside Vancouver reported earlier this year that the show’s production would run from March 19 to December 5. That means production on Seasons 1 and 2 was basically seamless, so the release being much sooner than October 2019 makes a lot of sense, especially when it’s named “Part 2” rather than “Season 2.”

“We went straight into the second season from the first and it’s been really so exceptionally fun to film,” lead actress Kiernan Shipka told Bloody Disgusting in an October 2018 interview. “Especially given the fact that I feel like we’re already in such a rhythm from coming out of the first season that to jump right into the second one was really, really fun and just a great opportunity to keep the momentum going.”

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 1 was the flagship series in Netflix’s “Netflix and Chills” Halloween programming block, having released the Friday before the holiday. But the show isn’t following the usual annual production cycle, or even a cycle that’s more stretched out.

Sabrina also has a Christmas special episode coming out Friday, December 14.

Is There a Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 2 Trailer?

Yes! There isn’t a full, traditional trailer just yet, but on December 1, Netflix released a teaser that runs about 44 seconds.

In it, Sabrina tries on different outfits with some magical spinning before settling on a mostly-black outfit that Aunt Zelda lightly teases her about, saying she’s “trying to be edgy.” That’s definitely the case when Sabrina goes to some kind of party or club that might be a full-on Bacchanal (it’s probably a club owned by Dorian Gray). There, she dances seductively with Nicholas Scratch.

We also see Ms. Wardwell looking quite menacing, and Sabrina walking through the halls of Greendale High. Does this mean she attends human high school still? That part’s unclear, but Harvey and Roz have a noticeably tender moment. Could they develop feelings for one another now that Sabrina is out of the picture?

The rest of the teaser is a flurry of magic and action. Sabrina runs from birds, and she even encounters what looks like a werewolf. What kinds of horrors will she face in the new year?

How Does the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 1 Ending Set Up Season 2?

Huge spoilers here for those that haven’t finished Season 1, but in the Season 1 finale, Sabrina signed her name in the Book of the Beast, essentially enlisting as Satan’s servant after spending all of Season 1 avoiding just that. She did this to gain enough power to vanquish the Greendale 13 and save all of Greendale from the Red Angel of Death the dead witches summoned.

In her final confrontation with the Greendale 13, Sabrina summoned Hellfire and destroyed the witches. For some reason, this turned her hair icy white. Based on what we know from earlier in the season, Sabrina signing the Book of the Beast means that she’s become a full witch. She’ll gradually lose her connection to the mortal world entirely, as evidenced by her rejection of boyfriend Harvey Kinkle and her going to the Academy of Unseen Arts full-time. Will she become romantically involved with the warlock Nicholas Scratch? Possibly!

There’s also the added complication that the Bride of Satan, Lilith (posing at Ms. Wardwell), revealed that Satan is grooming Sabrina to become his enforcer so that Lilith can assume a throne beside Satan. She did also say directly to Sabrina that she might become “the most powerful witch of her generation.” Stolas, her now-dead familiar, also wondered if Satan might instead be grooming Sabrina to become the queen of hell instead. These are some seriously dark tidings either way.

All of Season 1 had Sabrina straddle the line between the witch and mortal worlds, but now that she’s signed fully on for the former, Season 2 will explore the full implications of that.

There’s also the added reveal that Dr. Cerberus’ eyes glowed some otherworldly color, so it seems like the man might actually be some kind of demon.

Season 1 deviated heavily from the Archie comics this story is based on, but there’s plenty more Season 2 can adapt from.

“Sabrina definitely changes and shifts a lot,” Kiernan Shipka also told Bloody Disgusting in October 2018. “Her growth is very evident and the second season definitely has a different spin on it than the first season. They’re very different from each other.”

What New Characters Are in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 2?

Deadline reported on November 28 that Alexis Denisof and Jedidiah Goodacre had both been cast in recurring roles for Sabrina Season 2.

Denisof, who most fans might recognize as Wesley from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, will play “Adam Masters, the boyfriend of Mary Wardwell who’s described as “handsome and charming.” He returns to Greendale after working oversee for a time with Physicians Without Frontiers. But Deadline also used the word “fiancé” so Ms. Wardwell might already be engaged. It’s just too bad she’s now possessed by the Bride of Satan.

“We thought that could be a very interesting story to have Madam Satan meet someone who didn’t know her as Madam Satan, and only knows her as Mary Wardwell,” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told The Wrap. “And we thought it would be interesting to see how he treated her, and if that affected how she thought of herself and how she thought of her relationship with the Dark Lord.

Jedidiah Goodacre will play a warlock named Dorian Gray. He owns an exclusive nightclub called Dorian’s Gray Room and is described as “an enigmatic gentleman of an indeterminate age and is very good at keeping secrets, especially his own — a cursed portrait he hides from prying eyes.” So in case there were any doubts about the connection to Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, dispel them here. This Dorian Gray probably has a magical painting that makes him completely immortal.

Aguirre-Sacasa described Dorian Gray as one of his “favorite characters from Gothic literature,” adding that “his is one of the most famous deals with the Devil.” So it’s actually quite fitting that he should appear in a show like this

## When Is the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Christmas Special Release Date?

On November 12, Netflix released a sizzle reel of all its Christmas shows and movies, celebrating “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Netflix” as some kind of seasonal streaming event akin to “Netflix and Chills.” Part of that includes a bonus episode called Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: A Midwinter’s Tale that’ll be released on the streaming platform Friday, December 14.

Because the Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year, it’s a special holiday for witches “when the veil between this world and the next is at its thinnest.” That makes it “the perfect time to conduct a séance.” As such, Sabrina uses the opportunity to try contacting her mother, whom she last saw in mortal Purgatory during Season 1.

A Midwinter’s Tale will be Episode 11 of the 20 originally ordered by Netflix, so that kind of makes it the start of Season 2? Or should we consider it a legitimate Christmas Special akin to what Doctor Who has been doing for years?

What New Characters Are in the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Holiday Special?

Deadline reported on November 28 that actress Mckenna Grace will “guest star” in A Midwinter’s Tale, so it seems all but certain that it’ll be rather flashback-heavy.

“During our holiday special,” Netflix wrote in a statement, “we’ll get to see what Sabrina was like as a precocious tot. And while The Church of Night celebrates the Solstice, that doesn’t stop Li’l Sabrina from asking Santa for something special.”

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told The Wrap that casting Mckenna Grace in the role was all Sabrina actress Kiernan Shipka’s idea.
