'Smash Ultimate' DLC Leaks: Square Enix "Definitely" Happening, Leaker Says

But who could it be?

Nintendo already confirmed that at least five additional characters are coming to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster in the form of downloadable content (DLC) after the game’s release, but we still have no idea who those additional fighters might be. Or do we?

A recent post to the GameFAQs forum from mostly reliable Smash Bros. Ultimate leaker Vergeben suggests that at least one third-party characters could be coming to the game thanks to a partnership between Nintendo and Square Enix.

When it comes to Smash Bros. Ultimate roster leaks, it’s best to treat everything with a grain of salt (after all, a lot of this is just wishful thinking), but Vergeben has an impressive track record, they correctly leaked Ridley, Isabelle, Simon Belmont, and more. So it’s worth listening to what they say.

In this case, Vergeben is pretty straightforward, writing simply, “The Square Enix character is definitely happening.”

That seems like a clear indication that we’re getting something, but exactly what remains a mystery. Popular Square Enix characters include Lara Croft (Tom Raider), Noctis (Final Fantasy XV), and Sora (Kingdom Hearts). Any of those would be great additions to Smash Bros. Ultimate, though the most popular pick is likely Geno from Super Mario RPG, which Square Enix developed for the SNES console.

Responding to the same question, Vergeben also offered a less decisive answer regarding another big possible third-party addition: Minecraft. Rumor has it that Steve, a character from the game, could appear in Smash Bros. Ultimate, though it’s possible we could simply get a Minecraft stage or even just a trophy instead.

Vergeben couldn’t confirm or deny any of those rumors, instead stating, “I’m looking into it and awaiting response.”

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches December 7 for Nintendo Switch.
