'Wreck-It Ralph 2' Stan Lee Cameo: Here's What Happens in the New Movie

Is he in Disney's new movie? Well, sort of.

Does Stan Lee have a cameo in Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2? The short answer is… sort of. Here’s what you need to know about your first chance to see the comic book legend in theaters following his unexpected death on Monday.

First, it’s worth noting that while Wreck-It Ralph 2 isn’t a Marvel movie, it does feature other Marvel characters. During her travels through the internet, Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) visits “Oh My Disney,’ a hodgepodge of all the various properties Disney owns, from Star Wars to the Muppets to, yes, Marvel. So it’s not so surprising to hear that Lee might be wandering around in this digital Disney paradise.

Second, Lee hasn’t even limited himself to Marvel movies. One of his most recent cameos was in Teen Titans Go! to the Movies (a DC animated film) where he actually appears twice and lampoons his own love of doing cameos. So the fact that he pops up in Wreck-It Ralph 2 shouldn’t come as a huge shock.

Unfortunately, while there is a “Stan Lee cameo” of sorts in the new movie, it’s not much. While being pursued by a pack of Storm Troopers, Vanellope bumps into a digital avatar of Stan Lee (all humans on the internet are portrayed as Nintendo Mii-style figures with rectangular heads). He doesn’t say anything, just looks surprised for a few seconds before disappearing from the frame as the chase continues.

Lee never says anything, and it’s unclear if he was involved in any way or even offered permission for his likeness to be used. So we definitely wouldn’t count this as an official cameo, but at least it’s something.

Thankfully, this won’t be the last time we see Lee on film. He reportedly already filmed his cameo for Avengers 4, and with a slew of other Marvel movies already filmed (from Captain Marvel to Dark Phoenix) there’s a decent chance we’ll get to see him several more time in 2019 before we truly have to say goodbye.

Ralph Breaks the Internet hits theaters on November 21.
