'Venom 2' Release Date Definitely Coming, and Here's How We Know for Sure

Classic Harrelson.

Venom might still be in theaters, but the movie’s final moments already have comic book fans excited for Venom 2 (or whatever the sequel gets called). Thankfully, even if Sony hasn’t made an official announcement, it looks like one of the movie’s stars may have already confirmed that Venom 2 will get an eventual release date in an interview earlier this year.

Warning: Spoilers for the Venom post-credits scene below.

If you missed the post-credits scene and you’re wondering what Woody Harrelson has to do with Venom, here’s a quick recap. Right at the end of the film, journalist Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) scores a bombshell interview with a source who turns out to be… Woody Harrelson. Well, actually, it appears to be Cletus Kasady — a serial killer from the comics who becomes the super-villain Carnage — played by Harrelson.

This would seem to set up a clear dynamic for Venom 2 in which our anti-hero takes on a new symbiote-powered monster. Sony hasn’t said much about its plans for Eddie Brock beyond the current film, but in a May interview with Collider, Harrelson took a break from promoting Solo to drop some pretty big Venom spoilers, essentially confirming that a sequel is in the works.

“I’m in a little fraction of this movie,” he said at the time, confirming what had until then been a mere rumor, “but I’ll be in the next one, you know?”

The next one? That’s got to be Venom 2, right?

Of course, Harrelson might have been speaking off the cuff, but considering what happens at the end of Venom it seems all but certain that we’ll get a Carnage-focused sequel eventually. And thanks to that May interview, a Venom 2 release date seems even more likely. Even if it’s still a few years away.

Venom is in theaters now.
