Boba Fett Maybe Spotted in 'Solo: A Star Wars Story'

Lucasfilm/Disney

Han’s greatest nemesis may be making his way into Solo: A Star Wars Story. Not, it’s not Han’s murdering son, Kylo Ren, but instead, that notorious fan-favorite bounty hunter, Boba Fett.

On Friday, Entertainment Weekly continued their coverage of various interviews and exclusives from Solo, including a dive into the different smugglers, criminals and other scum and villainy expected to appear in the movie. But the big news isn’t even about Woody Harrelson’s crime boss Becket or Thandie Newton’s blaster-toting mercenary, Val. Instead, it’s all about the glimpse of someone who looks like Boba Fett in the background.

Writing for EW, Anthony Breznican noticed that very familiar helmet in the background of one of the behind-the-scenes photos in Solo certainly looks like the outline of Boba Fett’s helmet. Though, Breznican says it could just be a “trick of the eye,” even though it really looks like it’s probably totally Boba Fett. Unless it’s just someone with the same kind of Mandalorian helmet. After all, even Sabine Wren on Rebels rocks similar headgear.

Current Star Wars canon has the voice of Boba Fett sounding exactly like popular actor Jon Hamm, thanks to the fact that he plays the character in the totally official Star Wars audiobook, From a Certain Point of View. So, if Boba Fett is in Solo: A Star Wars Story, assuming he talks, will it be Jon Hamm?

Boba Fett’s first appearance is bizarrely connected with what fans consider to be the worst Star Wars thing ever: the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. At that point, Fett was voiced by Don Francks and was totally animated. In his first live action appearance in Empire Strikes Back, he was voiced by Jason Wingreen. But, after it was revealed that Boba Fett was a clone of Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones in 2002, Boba’s voice was retroactively replaced by Jango actor Temuera Morrison.

So, in theory, Morrison is the incumbent Boba Fett in terms of the films. Meaning, if Boba Fett is in Solo and he does talk, there’s a fair chance Morrison could play him.

At this point, we don’t have a long wait. Solo is out everywhere on May 25, 2018.
