'Deadpool 2' Trailer Trolls Fans With Action-Packed Bob Ross Spoof

There’s no better way to hype up the return of Deadpool than to see the Merc With a Mouth as… Bob Ross? That’s right, in the very first teaser trailer for Deadpool 2, which will hit theaters next summer, Ryan Reynolds returns as Deadpool, except he’s dressed as Bob Ross, painting a happy little picture with happy little trees before a kinetic ten seconds of brand new footage from the sequel.

More of a teaser than an actual full-blown trailer, the video reveals little about the plot of Deadpool 2. Even big new characters, such as Domino (Zazie Beetz), appear so quickly such it’s quite literally cases of blink-and-you-miss.

But, pretty much all the old favorites are back. Dopinder (Karan Soni) the taxi driver is back, as well as Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) who sports a nifty new haircut, Blind Al (Leslie Uggams), and Weasel (T.J. Miller), who frightens Dopinder when he cocks back a glock pistol. Also missing from the trailer is Josh Brolin’s Cable, whose cyborg hands appears only briefly.

Also missing is Colossus, but that giant X-Man is set to return in the film with Stefan Kapičić set to reprise his role via voice and motion-capture once again.

Director David Leitch, who also directed the Keanu Reeves revenge vehicle John Wick, doesn’t seem like he’s lost his sense of humor. But, going by the short clips of the movie’s action scenes, it definitely looks like the film has become harder and grittier than the previously outlandish action of the first movie.

As far as Easter eggs go, the Deadpool 2 trailer is packed with them. Pretty much all the colors Deadpool’s “Bob Ross” paints with are parodies of classic films — “Clockwork Orange,” “Soylent Green,” “Pretty in Pink” — while Negasonic’s new uniform has a newer, more prominent X-Men logo.

Deadpool 2 will hit theaters on June 1, 2018.
