You’re Not Crazy, Kylo Ren’s Scar Is Different in ‘The Last Jedi’

At the end of The Force Awakens, Darth Vader-wannabe Kylo Ren takes a nasty blow to the face from Rey’s lightsaber. Fortunately for him, it leaves a scar of which he’s likely very proud. Even more fortunately for him, that scar has since migrated across his face to a much more attractive location.

If you watched trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi — if you didn’t, what the hell are you doing? Go watch it right now — you probably saw a short clip of Kylo wielding his lightsaber with a face injury that looked relatively healed.

He's no Anakin, or Boy Who Lived, but that's still a pretty sweet forehead scar.

Fans immediately called out the placement of Kylo’s mark, since it had previously gone between his eyebrows and down his nose, like this:

A bit less comely.

The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is here to tell you that you are not, in fact, crazy. The scar is different, he explained on Twitter, and he was the one who made the change — quite literally, just because the old scar looked dumb.

Apparently the change wasn’t minor enough to escape fans’ notice, but it’s still fairly insignificant. Viewers only got a short glimpse of Kylo Ren’s injuries in the last film, after all. Still, it’s nice to know that all of this watching and re-watching of The Force Awakens is indeed making us more observant of these details, as opposed to just generally nuts.

Don’t miss The Last Jedi when it comes out on December 15, 2017.
