Dom’s evil turn in the upcoming Fate of the Furious notwithstanding, we know that “family” can transcend time. But, what about space? We might find out, since the writer behind the last several movies in the Fast and Furious series won’t rule out a trip to space for a future installment.
While speaking to Uproxx’s Mike Ryan in what seemed like a pretty chill conversation, series writer Chris Morgan was forced to address the big question on every Fast and Furious fan’s mind: Will they go to space? When he was first asked, Morgan was a little evasive.
“Look, I get all versions of that question,” he said. “I get, ‘Are you going to space?’ and, ‘Please, God, tell me you’re not going to space because you’ll lose me if you do.’”
Anybody who says they’d quit the franchise because Dom and Letty and the gang spit in the face of Earth’s gravity and do sick stunts in zero-g is an idiot. Uproxx tried to impart this on Morgan, and he seemed to eventually come around to the possibility.
“The only way I’d go to space is if I had something so good,” he said.
“Look, no plans for it right now, so hopefully people will be good with that,” Morgan later remarked. “But, never say never. If we came up with the perfect thing and it made sense, it will be awesome.”
Like, okay. I don’t know what more you need than “Fast and Furious in space” to count as a perfect thing, but live your truth, man. You’re the expert.
Morgan did have a pretty amazing joke(?) suggestion for a possible extraterrestrial sequel. “What if Dom’s long lost brother, Richard B. Riddick, showed up?” he said.
Fate of the Furious, which takes place entirely on Earth, hits theaters on April 14.
