Why the Daleks Will Probably Open 'Doctor Who' Season 10

BBC/Radio Times

The Doctor’s new companion, Bill Potts, is going to meet the most famous Doctor Who archenemies the moment she sets foot in the TARDIS. The BBC has seemingly let slip that the first episode of Doctor Who Season 10 will see the titular Time Lord and Bill taking on the Daleks.

According to Radio Times, a deep analysis into the recently released BBC screenshots on Thursday from the latest Season 10 trailer revealed that all those images Who fans have been seeing of the Daleks chasing the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Bill (Pearl Mackie) around are from the opening episode of the season, “The Pilot.”

Bill was first introduced as the Doctor’s new companion in April 2016 with a 2-minute video of her and the Doctor hiding from the Daleks. The scene suddenly makes a lot more sense with the reveal that Bill’s first interaction with the Daleks will be in the first episode of the season. It’s most likely one of her first adventures ever with the Doctor, so her incessant questions and nervous, boisterous energy haven’t gotten on the Doctor’s nerves too much yet.

The Doctor Who team assured fans at the time of the introduction’s premiere that the 2-minute scene would be in Season 10 — and now it looks like that scene will be in the season’s opening episode.

And remember the soaking wet woman in the Season 10 trailer who intoned “Exterminate” in a very worrying way? She’ll also be in the season opener, potentially bringing an incredibly dark storyline to the first episode if human Daleks go the way they have in past Who seasons.

But here’s hoping Bill doesn’t lose any of her charm and energy as she keeps up with the Doctor’s busy schedule throughout Season 10.

Season 10 of Doctor Who premieres April 15.
