Retro 'Ghostbusters' Cosplay in New 'Stranger Things' Super Bowl Ad

IndieWire/Amazon

Some of the most iconic ‘80s sci-fi paraphernalia has finally arrived in Hawkins, Indiana. Dustin, Matt, and Lucas from Stranger Things will be donning Ghostbusters gear for the first official teaser trailer for Season 2, set to premiere during the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 5.

Entertainment Weekly published the exclusive photo from Netflix on February 3, announcing simultaneously that the trailer will be dropping on Super Bowl Sunday.

Season 2 of Stranger Things will take place in 1984, one year after the events of Season 1 of the Duffer Brothers’s 2016 smash hit series. Dustin, Matt, Lucas, Will, and Eleven will be one year older, one year wiser, and one year more traumatized after their run-in with the Demogorgon, the Upside Down, and Eleven’s supposed death.

Conveniently enough, the first Ghostbusters film premiered in 1984, which would make it prime bait for everyone’s favorite group of nerdlings to cosplay for school. In the photo, Dustin looks a bit beleaguered by something beyond the camera while Matt and Lucas stand behind him, slightly obscured by his pack and hair.

Maybe Dustin looks so upset because he just realized he and his friends are the only ones getting into the spirit of Halloween this year. No doubt, audiences will get a better look at what to expect from Season 2 when the trailer drops February 5.

Stranger Things Season 2 is set to premiere sometime in 2017 on Netflix.

Update, February 5: Here’s the trailer that aired during the Super Bowl.
