The 'Mass Effect: Andromeda' Trailer Is Out and It's a Vivid Trip

Bigger and better than ever before.

EA, BioWare

BioWare fans rejoice, because November 7 — aka, N7 Day — is finally here, and a new Mass Effect: Andromeda trailer has been released. It offers the best look so far of the upcoming sci-fi epic. New characters, story plot, and most importantly, new, vibrant planets for players to explore are all there in the new cinematic trailer.

The new trailer begins with a voice-over explaining the main crew’s voyage to discover a new home free from war and chaos. Unfortunately this is space, and trouble quickly ends up stranding the crew of the Tempest in foreign, and dangerous new planets in the Andromeda galaxy where big threats, and equally big monsters await the crew. The story in Mass Effect: Andromeda takes place long after the events of the last Mass Effect game, and players will be able to choose between one of two siblings to be the new protagonist of the Mass Effect: Andromeda story arc.

Whichever sibling the player chooses to be the game’s protagonist will assume the role of “Pathfinder,” a human designated to find a new planet for the human race. Along the way, players will encounter new characters and allies, along with appears to be a new alien threat.

The biggest takeaways from the trailer is the sheer size and scale of the action. The original Mass Effect: Trilogy games were by no means small, but Andromeda appears to take BioWare’s storytelling ambitions to a whole new scale. Vibrant new surroundings — including a bright desert planet shown in previous teasers — indicate that the crew of the Tempest are stranded in a wild, new environment they might not be prepared for.

The trailer marks N7 Day, so named after the special forces unit within the Mass Effect universe, and is the annual celebration of all things Mass Effect among fans of BioWare’s space opera RPG. Each year the company honors its fans on November 7 with new updates on the franchise.

With Mass Effect: Andromeda, the first proper Mass Effect game since Mass Effect 3 ended the original trilogy back in 2012, this year’s celebration has kicked off with quite the bang.

There’s not been an official Mass Effect: Andromeda release date announced yet, but look for it in spring 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, and Xbox One.
