DC's Justice League Will Meet the Power Rangers in 2017

DC Comics, Boom! Studios

Go, go, Justice League!

DC Comics and BOOM! Studios are coming together to make a Mighty Morphin’ mash-up with the Justice League, bringing the original six Mighty Morphin Power Rangers together with DC’s top superheroes. It’s all going down in a new six-issue comic book series set to release on January 11, 2017, simply titled Justice League/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Tom Taylor, best known for his run on Injustice: Gods Among Us, will write the crossover book along with art by Stephen Byrne (Justice League of America, Rebirth: The Ray). Karl Kerschl will create the main covers, with an additional six variant covers from six different artists that pairs one Power Ranger with one member of the League.

The story begins with a breach on the Rangers’ Command Center. During the breach, Zack, the Black Ranger, is flung to another dimension — the DC Universe. The other Rangers then have to race against time to save Zack from, of all people, Batman, who for some reason sees the teenager with attitude as a threat.

Kyle Higgin’s ongoing Power Rangers squad is the original six: Jason, Kimberly, Trini, Zack, Billy, and Tommy. They’ll face off against a classic six-hero Justice League roster: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, and John Stewart’s Green Lantern.

“Everyone at BOOM! is thrilled to be part of an event of this magnitude,” BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon says. “Our imaginations have been racing since the moment this kicked off with our friends at DC and Saban Brands.”

The press release also revealed the variant cover pairings along with their artists. They are as follows:

  • Batman/Pink Ranger by Dan Hipp
  • Cyborg/Blue Ranger by Dustin Nguyen
  • The Flash/Black Ranger by Yasmine Putri
  • Green Lantern John Stewart/Yellow Ranger by Marguerite Sauvage
  • Superman/Green Ranger by Chris Sprouse
  • Wonder Woman/Red Ranger by Marcus To

This isn’t the first DC crossover with BOOM! At New York Comic Con, BOOM! and DC announced a Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern series, also a six-issue book coming in February. Earlier this year, BOOM!’s Lumberjanes crossed over with Gotham Academy from DC, a comic series set in a boarding school in Gotham City.

The book is also well-timed commercially, as 2017 is a banner year for both teams. Saban’s Power Rangers will be released in theaters on March 24, 2017, while Justice League from Zack Snyder will premiere November 17.
