'Far Cry Primal' Will Let You Tame Beasts From the Stone Age

From eagles to mammoths, Primal may just have them all in its new trailer.

Ubisoft

Earlier this year, Far Cry Primal was announced as Ubisoft’s next installment in the franchise — and it was surprising to see crude spears and bows taking the place of the guns and explosives we’ve become accustomed to.

But that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, with Primal promising to focus on re-creating the franchise for a new era: the Stone Age. While we’ve only seen a cinematic trailer so far; the Game Awards brought a whole plethora of new information when Ubisoft revealed the first gameplay trailer for the game — including the addition of animal taming.

Taken straight out of Far Cry 4’s Shangri La mission sequences, it looks like we’ll be taming wild beasts such as Sabertooth tigers and hawks when exploring Primal’s world next year. It’s not surprising to see this mechanic taking the stage this time around, especially considering the wide variety of animals the team has at their disposal for the game and the success of the mechanic in Far Cry 4’s sequences.

We also got a look at the base gameplay of Primal, which looks and feels very similar to that of previous installments — but that didn’t stop me from imaging my pet owl and me taking down enemies together on the snowy hills this coming February.

Far Cry Primal releases February 23 on Xbox One and PS4.
