SyFy Posted the Entire First Episode of 'The Expanse' on YouTube

The space noir premiered yesterday and the network behind it really wants you to check it out.

SyFy

If culture and social class battles set in space are your thing, then SyFy will likely grab your attention with The Expanse. Based on the books by James S.A. Corey, the new television show is set 200 years in the future, when Mars has been settled and the blue-collar folks of the universe are working in mines overseen by colonial overlords. You can watch the first episode right on YouTube.

SyFy is in the process of shifting away from its more lowbrow Sharknado-type features and moving towards a stronger play of high-profile and big-budget projects — The Expanse being one of its earliest experiments in this new arena. The YouTube release is an obvious nod to the idea that if you get hooked, you’ll end up paying to watch it on cable. Or, you know, the can’t-quite-quit Popcorn Time.
