The new limited-time mission set for Fortnite Week 5, released Thursday morning, is “Catastrophic.” Based on early data-mining, here are all seven of the challenges.
- Deal damage with Pickaxes to opponents
- Eliminations from at least 50 meters away
- Use trap slot items in different matches
- Place Top 5 in Duos or Squads Matches
- Deal damage to opponents from above
- Visit Lonely Lodge and Lazy Lagoon in the same match
- Search chests at Shifty Shafts or Haunted Hills
From these, players will have to complete three challenges to unlock the loading screen, with one challenged unlocking each day at the usual time of 9 a.m. Eastern — meaning that you can’t complete this loading screen challenge until Saturday, August 31. Then next Thursday, Catastrophic disappears forever.
Once players unlock the screen, the easy-to-find special clue is a bit harder to decipher than usual. There’s some kind of toxic symbol-shaped window in a blank, black wall. Three characters are sitting in each of the spokes with green ooze dripping down. The whole thing is kind of gross, but also weird in that these women are positioned like pinups.
Dripping from the toxic goop on the left side of the image are the characters E78 and F78, a more roundabout way of communicating a common coordinates-based clue. What this actually means is E7, E8, F7, and F8.
Southwest of Salty Springs and northwest of Fatal Fields, this location is near a boring house on the top of a plateau just east of where the snowy area ends.
As always, players will want to look for a patch of brown dirt in the middle of the green grass, and the battle star should materialize instantly — assuming they’ve already unlocked the loading screen. Otherwise, it just won’t spawn.
Players have until 9 a.m. Eastern on Thursday, September 5 to access the Catastrophic challenges, the loading screen, and the treasure that it leads you to.
